Do you love pancakes? If you’re nodding your head yes, there’s a perfect breakfast spot for you {note: no alcohol, so no ‘brunch’}. Enter Stacks Pancake House of Hoboken. Here are a few must-order tips:

This crazy and delicious concoction isn’t your average stack of pancakes. On the menu, however, it said fresh bananas mixed in the pancake batter, topped with melted chocolate chips {alas, that didn’t happen…}. While the ingredients in this combo are insanely good, it’d be even better if the the bananas and choc chips were mixed into the batter. But delicious nonetheless. If you’re feeling creative, go ahead and add some ripe strawberries to your outrageous stacks:

Pictured here is A Slice of Heaven – pancakes with strawberries, bananas, and chocolate chips. If you don’t love strawberries, this stack may come off  a bit too overpowering.  Again, it would have been nice to have the fruit and chocolate chips mixed into the pancakes to create a less soggy feel.

If you’re not craving stacks, go ahead and splurge on the Smores Crepe…filled with graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. Whoa.

You won’t always find marshmallows at brunch-time, but when you do it’s magic. These crepes are loaded with  whipped cream and marshmallows, very tasty – but quite the sugar high for just one sitting.  These dishes definitely appeal to sugar lovers so its best to leave your salty brunch cravings behind.

Overall thoughts: Stacks has a creative, decent-sized menu, and besides all of the sweetness presented here via pancakes and crepes, there are also a lot of egg and bacon dishes to satisfy your salt taste buds. Not to mention a variety of french toast and waffle combos. If going the sweet route, ask the waitress to “mix in” your fruit/chocolate chips/guilty pleasure into your pancakes, as pancakes need to have their goodies mixed through, rather than piled on top. Still, it is a lively place and you definitely get a lot for the cost! Each dish is around $8, so not too shabby! No alcoholic bevs are served here, so if you’re looking for that bloody mary or ‘mosa fix…head elsewhere — perhaps to Mikie’s which is just down the block!

Have you been to Stacks? What’d you think?
