Let’s face it — those 5+ summer pounds from endless margs and late night fries {#nojudgments}  topped off with numerous weekend trips to the shore are finally catching up to your waistline. So here you are, ready to get fit for fall. While there are a slew of boutique gyms in the area with specialized classes, sometimes you just want a gym membership to have an all-in-one approach while you get svelte from all angles {a one-stop shop}. Enter Crunch Gym, located at 110 River Street, a comprehensive fitness studio downtown. Recently, I tried a few {glorious} days there, in its recently renovated its space {which includes a brand new spin studio as well as a majorly expanded group fitness class offerings}. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves…read below for all of the exciting updates to this fitness locale.

Ambiance

Crunch is a big space, which is awesome when its jam-packed at peak hours {before and after the 9-5 work day} — and there really is room for everyone at the gym party! They have any machine you’d want to use for cardio: Precor Trainers, Ellipticals, Stairmasters, and rows of treadmills. When you’ve finished cardio or you’re looking for a more weight-intensive workout, there are two rooms — yes you read that right — two rooms filled with free weights, medicine balls, kettle bells, and weight machines. It may be difficult to figure out where to start.

Whatever part of your bod you’re looking to firm up, Crunch has got you covered in their class department. They offer so many different type of classes throughout the week ranging from a four different riding classes, ballet barre, toning of all kinds, zumba, yoga, and a [tough + fun] class designated for athletes. The best part about Crunch’s membership is that you truly get to zone out and have “me time” in a safe space. For everybody that is something different; if you prefer classes, there are tons to choose from. If you want to walk on the treadmill, that works. Or, if you want to bring a friend and buddy-up at the weights, you can do that too. The amount of space that Crunch has to offer and all of the equipment and classes give you free reign to take your workout into your own hands. Whatever you’re feeling on that particular day, you can do {including just a quick treadmill spring pre-happy hour… no judgments, see?}.

While getting to the gym is just about 90% of the battle, we can assure you you’ll be glad when the endorphins kick in and you’re killing in on the treadmill overlooking the NYC skyline. Does that view ever get old?! The sky[line] is the limit {pun intended}.

All in all, Crunch was a great experience. We also really enjoyed the chance to talk to some of the employees about why they love to be a part of “me” time. “The best part about Crunch is it truly is a family that builds off of everyone’s strengths,” says Lori, the head of group fitness at the gym. She also says that fitness has been a “personal journey, and taking the first step is the hardest part.” Lori could not say enough wonderful things about the staff and members of her happy place. Echoing our sentiments, Lori shared that Crunch has made her believe fitness is a holistic experience, and “everyone comes seeking something different, just like every teacher and member brings something to be shared.”
