HIIT: no, it doesn’t mean get physically aggressive, but yes, it definitely gets intense. But do you truly know what it is?

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is all the rage now and basically helps you say “peace out” to traditional cardio {not complaining}.  It is a form of cardio training that alternates between periods of intense anaerobic bursts of energy followed by periods of active rest.  It is shown to burn more calories and fat in less time as well as improve your cardiovascular endurance and anaerobic threshold in less time than boring {treadmill-based, yada yada, the usual} cardio.

Standard HIIT incorporates periods of 30 to 60 seconds of all out intensity, followed by the same duration in active recovery and is recommended to be performed 3x/week for minimum of 20 minutes.  That’s not to say you can’t do more, but this is a good starting point.

So, where can you find a HIIT workout in Hoboken? Here are a few of our faves:

  1. Iron Plate Studios: Group HIIT classes
  2. Work It Out: Blended High-Speed Ride, Next Stop Skinny, and Sweata Weatha
  3. 35 Minute Bootcamps35 Minute HIIT Classes
  4. Local Barre: HIIT the Barre
  5. Intrepid Gym: HIIT Open
  6. FIT RxN: FORCE
  7. Crunch: HIIT the Road
