It’s time to introduce another Hoboken Girl of the Week:

When you think about activities you can do in Hoboken and the surrounding areas, the last thing you probably think is to keep bees. However, Lexi Parisse is the exception to the norm.

Lexi Parisse is a fiber artist and beekeeper here in Hoboken {so cool, right?}. She is also the owner of Queen Bee Fibers, whose products have recently been launched at the Washington General Store at 509 Washington. You can also check her out at www.queenbeefibers.com and seven Whole Foods locations.

Lexi’s love of fashion all began at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she received a BFA specializing in knitwear. After college she worked in the NYC fashion industry as an assistant designer, then as a design and sales consultant for the largest knitting machine manufacturer in the world, Shima Seiki. While working at Shima, she took a drop spindle class and  was hooked to fiber artistry. After discovering the joys of creating her own yarn, she decided to leave her job within the fashion industry, move to Long Island and work on a fiber farm. She not only wants to provide great products, but wants to inform the public on bees and fiber artistry.

So of course we couldn’t let Lexi leave without answering the Hoboken Girl of the Week Q’s…here they go:

1) What is your favorite restaurant?

AXIS School of Dance

La Isla for brunch. Love the huevos rancheros, I get it every time! For dinner I love Karma Kafe [Indian].

2) What is your favorite boutique?

Hmm, that’s a tough one because we have so many great boutiques in Hoboken. I love Dear Hannah. Hannah and her mom are always so helpful and sweet. I also love the new Washington General Store. They have a great selection of gifts and you can also find Queen Bee Fibers products there!

3) What is your favorite thing about Hoboken?

The people! Hoboken has a great sense of community. It’s a safe and fun neighborhood to live in. There is always some kind of fun event going on.

4) What is your favorite thing to do in Hoboken?

Walk my dog Layla with my husband. We take her on really long walks all along the river. It is the perfect thing to do on a sunny day!

5) How long have you lived in Hoboken?

We moved to Hoboken a little over a year ago from Queens.

6) What is your favorite outdoor place to hang out in Hoboken?

The piers. They are all wonderful.

7) Where do you go out in Hoboken?

The Stewed Cow is where my friends and I go for a quick bite and a drink or The Turtle Club has an amazing drink menu!

8) What inspired your business?

My love for fiber and bees! Put those two together and you get my company Queen Bee Fibers.

Visit Lexi’s website, Washington General Store, or some Whole Foods locations for Queen Bee Fibers products!
