Can you believe it’s Labor Day weekend?! The unofficial end of summer is a bit of a quiet weekend in Hoboken- but that doesn’t mean there aren’t great events for those of us staying in town…and we’ve got the roundup in our weekly events guide. Have a great weekend!

Surf City “Mussel” Mania: Friday, September 4th – Monday, September 7th

If you’re staying in town but want the Labor Day Weekend “Beach” experience- head to Surf City to enjoy some sun and sand. Experience Mussel Mania this weekend with six different mussel dishes to choose from- yummm! The casual restaurant and bar is located at 1 Marin Boulevard in Jersey City. Reservations are not needed, as there are no seating assignments at Surf City.

Maxwell’s Labor Day Weekend Party: Saturday, September 5th at 8:00PM

Head to Maxwell’s on Saturday to celebrate Labor Day weekend with some live music. Their party feature four different bands starting at 8:00PM. This event is 21+ and tickets are $10 payable at the door.

Rummage and Ruffage Midtown Farmer’s Market: Saturday, September 5th at 8:00AM

Rummage and Ruffage Farmer’s Market continues this weekend featuring Bone In Food’s organic, grass fed meats. As always, enjoy yoga on the lawn beginning at 8:00AM and then head to shop through the market vendor tables. This mid-town market has vegetable farmers with fresh eggs, grass-fed and pasture raised meats, baked goods, salsa, traditional and vegan cheese stands, freshly pressed juices and a coffee stand as well as some prepared food options.

Green Village Open Air Music Event: Saturday, September 5th at 4:00PM

DJ Spider, Dakini9, Nicuri, Thefft, Tab Jones & more artists will be out to bring a fantastic music event to Jersey City. This 12 hour open air barbeque will feature River Horse beer, mixed vendors, and the release of two labels.  The event begins at 4:00PM and will be held at 149 Pacific Avenue, Jersey City.

Barsky Gallery’s Serbian Pop Art Story: Sunday, September 6th at 11:00AM

The Barsky Gallery of Hoboken, NJ is partnering with the Serbian Art Forum to support the Community Food Bank Of New Jersey in the fight against hunger and poverty by presenting “Pop Art Story,” a new exhibition by international artists Vlad Scepanovic & Kolya Bozovic. The exhibit features two prominent artists from the Serbian pop art movement. 10% of the proceeds of all sales will go to the charitable organization. The exhibit opens this weekend from 11:00AM-6:00PM and is open during regular gallery hours through September 19th.

The Gully Hubbards at the Biergarten: Sunday, September 6th at 1:00PM

Enjoy the Pilsnerhuas & Biergarten’s weekly Austro-Hungarian brunch this Saturday while listening to live music by The Gully Hubbards. The Gully Hubbards are an American band based out of Jersey City.  They set out to combine roots–music traditions with modern themes. Their sound utilizes pop sensibilities and compelling vocal harmonies. “The Gully Hubbards blend traditional American music genres like country, rock and roll, folk, and blues to make something fresh and new without sacrificing authenticity.

First Sunday Sinatra Singers- Marcqiese Rainey: Sunday, September 6th at 4:00PM

On the first Sunday of every month, the Hoboken Historical Museum and the Hoboken Department of Cultural Affairs have team up to bring back past Sinatra Idol Contest performers to help celebrate Frank Sinatra’s centennial year. This Sunday, the Sinatra Singer is Marcqiese Rainey, who graduated from New York’s Professional Performing Arts High School and received vocal training from the great Albert Rose, a world-renowned classical singer. He has been featured as a singer at the Apollo Theater’s Amateur night, and has performed at many different venues in New York City. He specializes in singing classic songs, such as those of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, among many other artists and genres. Come out and enjoy the sounds of Sinatra!
