Tutta Pesca Opens on 3rd Street

Hoboken’s newest seafood restaurant is officially open for business. Tutta Pesca, located at 155 3rd Street, serves local ingredients. The fish market has been open for a number of weeks, but the restaurant is now open and serving both lunch and dinner, and from the looks of the pictures on their Facebook page, it seems like we need to get there stat. Can’t wait to try it out!

Home for the “Pawlidayz” Adoption Event

For the second year in a row online retailer, Zappos.com will work with Best Friends Animal Society to sponsor pet adoptions this holiday season. Beginning on Black Friday and continuing through Cyber Monday, customers will have the opportunity to adopt a dog or cat through the Zappos.com Pawlidayz initiative. The company has pledged to donate a total of $1.25 million to Best Friends Animal Society.  More than 115 shelters, rescues and humane organizations across the United States, including our local Liberty Humane Society, will participate. Taphaus Coming to Hoboken

There’s a new bar coming to Hoboken and we have the update! Taphaus {located in Jersey City} is expanding to Hoboken/ Located at 800 Jackson Street, the bar will take the place of Tilted Kilt and add to the growing West Hoboken scene. It’s now slotted to open December 2016, and we can’t wait!

Police and Firefighters in Hoboken Deliver 150 Thanksgiving Meals

Last Monday, members of the police and firefighter departments delivered 150 Thanksgiving meals to residents in the Hoboken Housing Authority. Frey shared that HOPES Head Start gives a list of people who may need the help, and then they make plans to deliver the meals, according to the Hudson Reporter. The volunteers assembled at ShopRite {who donated all of the food!} to create an assembly line and put the food bags together for delivery. Kudos, all!

Hoboken Christmas Tree Lighting

This year’s Hoboken Christmas Tree Lighting will take place on Tuesday, December 6th beginning at 5:00PM. The event will take place in front of City Hall and will feature local school children and performers singing carols.  Prizes & Giveaways from radio station CBS FM 101.1 will be available as will hot chocolate being served by Apple Montessori SchoolsSanta Claus is also reportedly going to be making a visit! 🙂 For more information on performers at the event click here

 

15th Annual Newport Tree Lighting

Another opportunity for spreading holiday cheer! The 15th annual Newport Tree Lighting will take place on Thursday, December 1st at 6:00PM. The waterfront holiday event is free and open to the public. Through the evening, two lucky children will be chosen to introduce Santa Claus, who will be joined by Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop in leading the event. Attendees will also enjoy a light-and-music show, Victorian carolers, train rides, hot cocoa and more. A synchronized light-and-music show will also take place across Newport Square.

Hoboken Train Crash Engineer Reportedly Suffered from Sleep Apnea

The lawyer for the engineer driving the train during the tragic September train crash at Hoboken Terminal recently released a statement stating that his client has recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea. The results of his diagnosis were reportedly sent to the NTSB to aid in their ongoing investigation. Thomas Gallagher says that he does not remember the crash, which would be consistent with someone suffering from sleep apnea.

Hoboken Green Team Reusable Bag & Food Drive

Mayor Dawn Zimmer and the Hoboken Green Team will host two reusable bag giveaway and food drive events this coming week on Tuesday, November 29th {5-7:00PM at ShopRite} and Wednesday, November 30th {5-7:00PM at Amce}. Hoboken Girl Scouts and Stevens S.T.E.P. volunteers will assist with a food drive to benefit the Hoboken Shelter. At each event the Hoboken Green Team will distribute 800 reusable bags, one to each customer, free of charge. The reusable bag giveaway is intended to educate our community on the importance of reducing plastic bag consumption. Customers are encouraged to purchase items for donation listed at www.hobokenshelter.org/items-needed.
