• Holiday Happenings in Hoboken {Don’t Say that 3x Fast} December Events Guide

    All my Jews and Gentiles rejoice! Christmas came early! Well, in my apartment it is called Christmukkah, but regardless, it did come early, via these bad boys:

    My New Leather Ankle Boots (among a few other spontaneous purchases I made for myself while holiday shopping)…

    But I digress. Not sure if you know this already or not, but Hoboken is a pretty amazing place to be around the holidays…filled with lots of cheer. That being the case, it is my pleasure to be sharing some of the wonderful events in our community that are coming up this season.

    A few things to peruse in this post: Hudson Cakery’s Gingerbread Making Class, the Ho Ho Ho 4 Hoboken, a Holiday Crafts Fair, Hoboken’s Christmas Tree Lighting, a Winter Festival, a Menorah Lighting, & Banding Concert

    1. Hoboken City Hall Holiday Crafts Fair

    • When: Saturday & Sunday December 1st and 2nd from 11am to 5pm
    • Where: Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington Street
    • What: art, photography, jewelry, candles, soaps and body products, mirrors and frames, hand knit scarves, hats, sweaters, holiday ornaments, paper weights, greeting cards, tote bags, purses, quilts, florals, baked goods, framed vintage prints, wooden snowflakes, balsamic vinegars and olive oil, and so much more.

    2. Hoboken Christmas Tree Lighting

    • When: Tuesday, December 4th at 5pm
    • Where: In front of Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington Street
    • What: Better than Rockefeller Center, it’s the Hoboken tree! Performances by Garden Street School of the Performing Arts Band, HoLa Choir (El Coro de HoLa), Red Wing Cheerleaders and much more.

    3. Hoboken Winter Carnival

    • When: Thursday December 6th, 6pm-9pm
    • Where: Parking lot adjacent to Mama Johnson Field
    • What: Better than Rockefeller Center, it’s the Hoboken tree! Performances by Garden Street School of the Performing Arts Band, HoLa Choir (El Coro de HoLa), Red Wing Cheerleaders and much more. The City of Hoboken, in conjunction with the Hoboken Housing Authority, and sponsored by the New Jersey NCSY, are hosting the Hoboken Winter Carnival featuring free food and activities for the entire family including games, clowns, magicians, animal balloons, balloon shaving, bowling, ring toss, basketball, ventriloquist, manicures, cotton candy, pop corn, hot dogs, and more.

    4. Mommy & Me Gingerbread Class at the Hudson Cakery

    • When: Saturday Dec. 8: 1pm – 3pm
    • What: Kids will learn basic decorating skills using real gingerbread and can customize their very own personal gingerbread house. Make the mess in our kitchen – not yours! Take home your gingerbread house as a lovely centerpiece for your holiday table. $75 per child. All materials included. Children 4 and up. 12 max. per class.     5. The Annual Grand Menorah Lighting

    • When: Sunday, December 9th, 5:30pm
    • Where: In front of Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington Street

    6. Hoboken Holiday Banding Concert

    • When: Thursday, December 20th, 6:30pm
    • Where: Maxwell’s 1039 Washington Street
    • What: Concert benefit where proceeds support www.rebuildhoboken.org. Popular local musicians performing favorite holiday classic songs, featuring performances by: Chris Butler, Tammy Faye Starlite, Julio Fernandez, The Gefkens, Abbe Rivers, Karen Kuhl, Jack Skuller, Dave Calamoneri, The Cucumbers with Jon and Deena, Lloyd Gold, Bianca Bob, Gene Turonis, Emily Turonis and the Ideals, Sputnik, Jim Testa, AnnaLee Van Kleeck, Tom Vincent and the Holiday Banding House Band.

    7. Ho Ho Ho 4 Hoboken – Eat, Drink, and Be Merry (to raise $ for Hoboken!)

    • When: Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 2:00pm until 9:00pm
    • What: A fun-filled day of eating, shopping and drinking. Rather than have a crawl, Ho Ho Ho 4 Hoboken is going to expand the day to incorporate specials not just certain bars but from every retail spot (that participates) in Hoboken.

    So there you have it. Lots of fun things to do all over Hoboken, throughout the merry month of December! Love it! What will you be doing? Anything I missed?
