As a little girl, all Caitlin Casey ever wanted to do in life was to be an artist, living above her own store in Greenwich Village. After graduating from SUNY Oneonta with a degree in Fine Art, Cait moved out of the industry to work at Scholastic Publishing Inc. as an editor for the past six years, living in Hoboken.

Cait, owner of Love Travels

In December of 2013, Cait was celebrating her first holiday season with her boyfriend and wanted to give him something special. He grew up in Long Island, attended and graduated SUNY Albany, and has lived and worked in New York City ever since. Eric didn’t have anything in his apartment that showed his love for the island of Manhattan or the Empire State, so Cait decided a map of the city would be a perfect present. He loved it immediately– chock full of all the little places in NYC he loves: his first apartment where he lived with his brother in the Financial District, the Ghostbusters firehouse in TriBeCa, the Upper East Side where we had our first date at The Penrose, and our favorite diner in NYC: The Midnight Diner.

After some gentle nudging from her friends and family, Cait finally started giving some thought to starting her own map drawing shop. She started a Facebook Page and a few maps later, was well on her way to a new business venture. Love Travels was born, and there was no going back.

Says Cait:

Almost a year ago, I would never have imagined I would have made close to 30 different custom maps, for people all over the world. I have created multiple New York City maps, but I have also created California, Toronto, Jordan, and have orders for Boston, Kiev, and even Dubai! Of course I love drawing and creating the maps, as well as watching the business grow bit by bit, but my favorite part about Love Travels, are the stories I get to share with my customers.

Since starting her Love Travels Etsy shop, Cait has had several business owners request custom maps — including a very sleek and simple map for Zucker Bakery in the Lower East Side {their chocolate roses are out-of-this-world!}. My Belly’s Playlist also ordered two maps — delivery area maps of the Financial District and Midtown Manhattan where their sandwich shops are located {every order comes with their soon-to-be-famous chocolate chip cookie!}.

Business Maps – such a genius idea!

Besides business maps, Cait has an affinity for honeymoon and engagement maps. Her first honeymoon map was created for newlyweds TJ and Lauren. I had created a few custom gift maps, but none of a couples honeymoon travels. TJ ordered a custom map of the state of California where he and his wife traveled.

Outside of the US? Cait has already created custom orders of Toronto, Ireland, and even the country of Jordan for a Peace Corps member {who was teaching English to elementary students} — whose girlfriend Katie wanted to capture that time in his life for him. As Cait was creating the map, he proposed to Katie and they are now engaged to be married. So sweet!

Every map I make is special to me because of the stories people share with me. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Love Travels and right now I am gearing up for the Hoboken Art and Music Festival. I will be taking custom map orders at the Love Travels booth and selling stationery, prints of Hoboken, New York City, Brooklyn, and more. I will also be making custom NYC Marathon maps on the spot for you to order and taking home that day!

In case you’re wondering, I HAD to have a Hoboken map of my own! I had originally contacted Cait through her Etsy shop so we could create a custom one for me and my fiancé, and I was so excited that she was local to Hoboken. She asked me to list our top 10(+) favorite/meaningful spots in Hoboken so she could use them for the map…including our first Hoboken date at the Madison, the address of our old apartment where he proposed, our {RIP} favorite breakfast jaunt – Diana’s, and many other great spots.
