Charrito’s Restaurant is one of a few authentic Mexican restaurants in Hoboken…and one of my favorite go-to spots in town, especially because it is BYOB — and they make some amazing sangria! I also enjoy that the food is mostly gluten free – from the tamales to fajitas, there are so many options as far as appetizers and entrees. My waiter went through the menu with me to ensure that I had plenty of choices and let me know if something could be substituted to be gluten free.
I started off with a white sangria (perfect for summertime) — and the tostaditas and mild guacamole, of course.A great experience at this restaurant is watching your waiter/waitress make the guacamole at the table with a mortar and pestle. All the ingredients are prepared and are mixed right in front of you. The tostaditas also come with a side of salsa so you have two great toppings to choose from!
For my entree, I ordered the enchiladas vegetables. Made from corn tortillas and stuffed with a mix of sauteed vegetables (mushrooms, broccoli, onions and peppers) and topped with ranchera sauce. It also comes with a side of mexican rice and black beans. Such a great balance of spices and flavors rolled into an enchilada! And, GLUTEN FREE!
Overall, it’s a wonderful place to take some guests you want to impress from out-of-town or for a girls’ night with some Sangria and/or Margs {we’re thinking the latter}. The decor is authentic and super fun, which adds to the great vibe of the restaurant. Make sure you plan ahead because they don’t take reservations and both Hoboken locations are pretty small. My advice: bring a bit of extra wine for the waiting for your table part!
