• NJ Crafters Unite: weCraft Social at TEAK

Imagine this: for $2, you can socialize, eat sushi (or other snacks), and legitimately make your own candle from scratch. Crafty? Sounds like my kind of night. And it was. Recently, I attended the weCraft Social at TEAK and had a wonderful time.

weCraft is an inspiration marketplace and a startup crafts eCommerce site in Hoboken. The company hosts the meetup weCraft Social, which hosts local events like this one to support crafting.

weCraft Social’s meetup this month was located in Hoboken, and it is aimed at bringing together crafty DIY types of all skill levels. Part of their motto, “Let’s hangout with some scissors, glue, yarn, paper, jewels, and whatever else we can get our hands on,” is exactly what I needed to wind down from a busy week.

    Snacks were abound:

And of course a sushi boat!

After some snacking and mingling + drinking some delicious tea from The Tea Cart, each of us got one of these lovely bags of supplies with everything needed to make our candles:

The instructor, Niambi of Storyboard Bath & Body, was easy to follow and helped all of us who are relatively craft-challenged to get our candle wicks upright and functional. I also loved that we were allowed to sniff the different essential oils and fragrances to make our own scents. I picked peppermint & lime…3/4 peppermint & 1/4 lime. It smelled great if I do say so myself…

As Niambi of said, there is just something so calming about sitting and working on a DIY project! I couldn’t agree more. After our candles cooled, we got to decorate the jars and lids. It was quite soothing. Here is my finished product:

My adorable finished product. And it smells soooo good!

Kind of simple jar decor, but it goes nicely in my new apartment. And, the candle is all-natural and soy-based. Love it! In a few words: we had so much fun! Lovingly prepared materials baggie, thoughtful presentation, yummy food, and a relaxing environment (even in the club-infused TEAK!). A big thanks to Sloane of weCraft for putting together such a seamless event! It was enjoyable socializing while our candles cooled.

Make sure to sign up for the next meetup which is scheduled for April 24th. weCrafters will be making felt flowers at M Avery Designs! Details on the upcoming event here: http://www.meetup.com/weCraft/events/108712812/
