Little City Books

If fitness and meditation aren’t your cup of tea, that’s totally cool, and we’ve got a potential self-care solution: reading. iPad, Kindle, Nook, there are so many ways to read a book {poet!} these days, but heading into a real book store is still in a level of its own. There’s nothing quite like perusing the shelves and smelling that lovely new book smell — and for some, reading can be relaxing and therapeutic, cozying up with a real cup of tea and picking out a brand new novel to read.

And when it comes to book shops, there is something so charming about neighborhood bookstores, and Little City Books on 1st street is no exception {now with its children’s annex down the block as well}. Even though it may be hard to find time to read, make a deal with yourself to read one book per month, bought locally. And for the more avid reader, Little City Books also offers weekly book clubs.

Ultramarinos

Sometimes self-care is as simple as sitting in your favorite coffee shop, sipping on a latte, and eating a homemade treat. After a stressful day of work or a Saturday AM, head to 3rd street where you’ll find a little slice of Latin paradise: Ultramarinos. It’s one of the best-kept secrets in the neighborhood, offering that peace and quiet we all need. This eclectic South American themed shop has a full counter of homemade baked goodies {yes, they really bake on premises every. single. day} and the best Café Con Leche you will ever taste.
