Since I’m heading to the beautiful island of Anguilla in two weeks, better late than never — I’ve decided that it’s time for a spring shape up! Although I have a membership to Planet Fitness in Hoboken (who doesn’t), I never find that the minutes I spend on the treadmill or doing some of the weights make much of a difference in my actual body definition and toning. Therefore, I decided to seek out something more intensive and focused on my own specific body.
Meet: Kristin of Iron Plate Studios at 720 Monroe in the Monroe Arts Center.
IronPlate Studios is an elite and private fitness training and nutrition studio located at the Monroe Center in Hoboken. They specialize in strength and fitness, personal training, weight loss, physique development, sports nutrition, nutrition therapy and meal planning all in a private and motivating setting.
Before I met with Kristin for my first training session, we discussed my eating habits and she actually created a meal plan that I could base my diet off of (to really kick start my shape-up). She also included workouts I could do on my own (since we meet once a week). Since Kristin is a registered dietician, it’s the perfect combo.
What I loved about Iron Plate most is that it is a beautiful, private location — meaning that I’m getting 1-on-1 instruction during my workout in a comfortable, casual environment (just you and the instructor instead of being surrounded by tons of people sweating and running on treadmills next to me). Let’s face it, that gets old quickly.
For workouts, Kristin mixed it up with a ton of plyometrics, weights, squats, and other toning and fat burning exercises. Never have I ever used a jump rope in my 20s, so that was fun (and sweaty!). I don’t think I would have been comfortable jumping rope during a personal training session at the gym! We also did some fun stuff with weights, heavy ropes, and some jump squats. Did I mention we did squats? But, when you go to Kristin, you may receive a totally different workout than me — it all depends on you, your endurance, and your body type. So personalized, which is fabulous (and necessary).
Here are a few pictures of the studio itself (I just love the hardwood & mirrors)!
So beautiful, isn’t it?
As far as training, Iron Plate Studios offers packages for personal training (1:1 and small group), wedding preparation, pre- and post-natal as well as nutrition programs – so it really runs the gamut of fitness training in whatever capacity you need.
Iron Plate Studios is a diamond in the rough (well, not really – the Monroe Center is amazing) of 720 Monroe…make sure you check out the studio and start your spring shape-up!
