With all the fun bars and restaurants Hoboken has to offer, it is sometimes hard to consider to find something else to do without a tasty cocktail by our side. A reader recently emailed and asked to compile a list of things that would help her enjoy Hoboken without drinking so much {she’s eating clean, and the sugar and bloating from alcohol doesn’t help!}.

Don’t worry though, Hoboken Girl has found some fun activities to do to save the drinking for another time! Here’s our preliminary list:

Club Pilates 2023

1. Stand-Up Paddle Boarding {SUP}: Take a lesson to learn how to SUP {hello 90s with ‘sup’, am I right?}, and enjoy a couple hours on the Hudson with a beautiful view of Manhattan. Resilience Paddle Sports {1301 Sinatra Drive, on Pier 13} is a great place to learn how to SUP.

3. Hudson Table Classes: There are a ton of different types of cuisines and classes that make this a fantastic evening out, with or without some booze {they’re BYOB}.

4. Movies Under the Stars: Everybody loves to relax on one evening and watch a movie. Head to the Pier A and enjoy a movie and the view of the skyline! All summer from June-August, there is a movie showing every Wednesday. Hang out with friends and family and get cozy at Pier A, no alc needed.

5. Picnic at Pier A: Pier A is the place to be during a weekend afternoon. Gather friends and family and enjoy the view, some snacks, and even get a little tan {but bring the SPF!}.

6. Mangia Hoboken Tour: Take a behind-the-scenes tour of Hoboken’s most Italian  authentic gourmet food businesses in the United States. Make sure to bring your appetite! The tour will bring you to Carlos’ Bakery, Lisa’s Italian Deli, Grimaldi’s Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria, Empire Coffee & Tea, and to end the tour, the last stop will be visiting the childhood home of Frank Sinatra! Pretty cool. To schedule a tour click here.

7. Free Kayaking on the Hudson: The Hoboken Community Cove offers free kayaking on the Hudson all summer {June-Mid September}. It is always fun to get out on the water on the hot-humid summer days, why not spend it kayaking on the Hudson..for FREE.

8. Visit the {Hoboken} Farmer’s Market: During the summer, us residents in Hoboken love the farmer’s markets. We are lucky enough to have three amazing farmers markets. The downtown farmer’s market is every Tuesday from 3-7:30 PM {Washington and Newark St}.  The Uptown Farmer’s Market {Hudson & 13th St} is every Thursday 2-7PM. The Family Farmer’s Market is every Saturday 9AM-2PM {Garden St & 14th St.}.  Get some fresh produce and try some delicious food, sans cocktails {or you can blend some delicious fruits and veggies into a yummy smoothie!}.

9. Galleries of Hoboken: The Roig Gallery, Barsky Gallery, Proto Gallery, and the hob’ART galleries are all wonderful places to visit and enjoy an afternoon with friends. The Hoboken Museum {recently discussed here!} is also a great one.

11. Tour the Local Coffee Shops of Town: Starbucks who? Hoboken has such great local coffee shops with character and delicious food and drink: bwé, La Bouche, and Choc-o-Pain

12. Visit Little City Books, Buy a Book, and Go to a Coffee Shop to Read: You won’t regret it, trust me. Day well spent!

14. Urban Beach: Even though Urban Beach is not in Hoboken, it is just a short ten-minute walk away in Newport.  Urban Beach is a small, very quiet, and clean environment right on the Hudson River …with a beautiful view of the Freedom Tower. It is a great place to spend a nice Saturday afternoon and get your tan on, read a book, or have a picnic — or just spend a few hours relaxing.
