It’s getting easier and easier to find a delicious açai bowl in the Mile Square. Case in point: Açai Ya Later, Hoboken’s newest smoothie and açai bowl shop is opening at 203 Washington Street right next to Black Bear. We got to take a peek at the new space just in time for its soft opening Friday, June 16th, completely remodeled with a vibrant and fresh look — thanks to its owners Michael Lani and Matthew Rubel. Here’s a little more about our visit to Hoboken’s newest brick-and-mortar juice bar opening this week:

Now if you’re a Hoboken resident and hip to the retail/restaurant game, you’ll know that Açai Ya Later was originally a pop-up açai bowl cart which has now turned into a brick-and-mortar, so they already have a pretty loyal following — and it’s not hard to see why.

The owners Mike and Matt pride themselves on using locally-sourced and organic fruits as much as possible with low price points {seriously, an açai bowl is $7.99!!}, and each bowl uses pure açai, with no emulsifiers, which is something to be applauded.

At the new shop, they’ll also be serving some other fun menu items including smoothies, vegan food options, boxed water, and our favorite: THAI COCONUTS! If you haven’t had one of these you are seriously. missing. out.

So, onto the menu: Pineapple Bliss = a cored pineapple-turned-tropical refresher that is inside a literal pineapple, with club soda and pineapple blended. It’s topped off with a straw and drink umbrella to make you really feel like you’re on vacay as you walk on Washington Street. Bermuda, schmermuda.

^Pineapple Bliss… yes, please.

The small-but-mighty menu will definitely please any açai bowl lover. Bowl options include the Washington Street Bowl {açai or pitaya base with banana/strawberries/pineapple, and granola/coconut flakes/chia seeds}. Their Bring Me to the Beach bowl has a similar aesthetic but sub out the strawberries for mango and add coconut flakes. Berry Me is their third option, with a straight strawberry and blueberry topping. And of course, we couldn’t fail to mention that there are unlimited drizzles allowed {honey, agave, Nutella, peanut butter, or almond butter}. Extra fruit choices will run you 99cents on top of your bowl.

As far as the interior goes, these two really went all out. Turning a dark and musty cigar shop into a bright, beautiful white space definitely had its challenges, but as you can see from photos, they’ve really outdone themselves {there’s even an Instagram wall to the left when you walk in}. But the boys aren’t done yet; word on the street is they’re quickly expanding to NYC and Jersey City, so stay tuned.

The best part? On Saturday of next weekend, they’re doing their grand opening and giving away a FREE Pineapple Blisses to the first 100 customers! Stay tuned for details.

Have you tried Açai Ya Later? What’d you think?
