  • Ashley Branda of Two 01 Hair Shares Her Summer Hair + Beauty Secrets

    There’s so much to love about this time of year: dining al fresco, enjoying the longer days, and let’s not forget the magic that is frosé {BTW – it’s here in Hoboken}. But when it comes to our beauty habits, summer can be less than accommodating {we’re looking at you, frizzy baby hairs}. So how can we have fun in the sun while still looking and feeling fabulous? We caught up with Ashley Branda, owner of Two 01 Hair on 14th St. in Hoboken, about the products and methods she swears by this time of year.

    {Psst – Two 01 Hair is part of our HG Deal’s Guide!}

    As a hair stylist and makeup artists, what’s the #1 beauty product you can’t live without this time of year?

    Can’t live without? That would have to be May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon. It’s a decadent beauty balm that has the ability to soothe any problematic skin. It’s a must for me right out of the shower – it helps moisturize and prep my skin for a full face of makeup. I also cannot live without my Sephora Perfection Mist Nude Glow. If i look a little dull i give my cheekbones a spray and literally look radiant in seconds.

    What is your favorite foundation to wear during the summer?

    Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Liquid 24 hour Longwear Foundation is honestly phenomenal. I work 12-hour days around hot blow dryers and styling tools. When I use this foundation, I look the same way at the end of the day as I did when I started my day.

    What tips would you recommend to those of us who just can’t figure out how to get our makeup to stay put all day?

    Setting your foundation is key. Use a setting powder — my favorite is the Chanel Universal Powder – with a wet beauty blender… yes, wet! Not soaking wet, but a little more than damp. This will help seal your makeup while preventing creasing. Then top it off with Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray and boom — you’ll be locked and loaded all day long.

    Let’s talk about hair. How can we appear pulled together when the humidity strikes? Any great product or styling recommendations to help beat the heat?

    I’m really into air dry creams for summer. Pureology or Redken both have excellent ones. They’re perfect to use when you want to let the hair naturally dry, but also great for providing proper moisture. For the ladies who love to wear their hair straight all the time — make sure to blow dry it thoroughly! If there is any moisture molecules in the hair they will swell when put in a humid environment. That’s when the frizz happens.

    Is this a good time of year for keratin treatments? What exactly does it do for the hair?

    Yes! Keratin treatments put the keratin back into the hair so it eliminates frizz, closes the cuticle, locks in color and gives ultimate shine. It also speeds up drying time which is the best part, so your get ready time is cut by at least 15 minutes.

    You’re a busy working mother — what does your beauty routine look like when you’re in a rush to get out the door but still want to look nice?

    I let my hair dry about 90% of the time. I use the Redken No Blow Dry Just Right Cream — it provides some control and moisture. Obviously, moisture is key to having frizz free curly hair. I always use mascara, NARS Ultra Radiant Creamy Concealer in “Custard”, my Anastasia Brow Wiz in Caramel, NARS Laguna Bronzer, and Sephora’s Perfection Mist Nude Glow.

    So there you have it! From choosing the right products to embracing the au naturale look, summer is the perfect time to try something new. Share your best tips in the comments below!
