The 2023 National Hockey League playoffs are on the horizon as the regular season dwindles down to its last month or so. Our hometown team, the New Jersey Devils, are in a good position this year and it is only looking up from here — with young talent like Jack Hughes leading the team alongside new trade deadline additions like Timo Meier (who already has over 30 goals this season). If you can’t make it to the Prudential Center, there are a few bars in Hoboken that have great atmospheres for catching a game — and if you can make it to a game in Newark but are looking for a Mile Square bar to have some drinks afterward, these spots are also a good option. You can take the PATH from Newark Penn Station to Journal Square and then Uber to Hoboken, or take NJ Transit directly to Hoboken with a transfer in Secaucus. Read on for a list of the best bars to watch New Jersey Devils games at in the Mile Square.
Finnegan’s Pub | 734 Willow Avenue
Finnegan’s is a favorite neighborhood pub among locals. This Mile Square bar has a killer beer selection and TVs in the outdoor area, making this spot the perfect daytime or nighttime spot for sports viewing. Grab a beer, enjoy the live music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, challenge your friends to a game of darts, and watch the Devils play on the big screen TVs.

McSwiggan’s Pub | 110 1st Street
Anyone looking for a night out in Hoboken needs to look no further than Hoboken mainstay, McSwiggan’s Pub. With TVs both outside and inside, McSwiggan’s offers a full menu, including some delicious Irish staples, and a signature cocktail menu not to be missed — the perfect setup to watch a New Jersey Devils game. You can also play a game of pool while watching hockey, which is always a good combination.
Northern Soul | 700 1st Street
This downtown spot surprisingly has a laid-back environment, making it the perfect place for a chill night out with friends. Along the left of the expansive space sits a pool table, so there’s no lack of entertainment, either. Speaking of pool, we heard that current some Devils were recently spotted there playing pool with Hoboken locals — we’re talking Jack Hughes, Michael McLeod, and John Marino with the addition of Jack’s brother and current Vancouver Canucks defenseman, Quinn Hughes. A lot of these athletes live in the area, so we’re not surprised. There are a few TVs at this Mile Square bar so it is another good option to watch a Devils game at — and we know the team approves of the spot, too.
The Pig + Parrot | 77 Hudson Street

This Key West-inspired bar and grill is known for its “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere” approach to life, serving up island eats and a tropical drink menu. With a variety of TVs and a lively atmosphere, this bar is a great upbeat place to watch hockey and have lots of fun — and the spot sure does love the New Jersey Devils. If you head to the website, you’ll even find a photo of the owners hoisting the Stanley cup alongside some Devil’s greats including Scott Gomez, Colin White, and John Madden.

Schmitty’s | 359 1st Street
Schmitty’s is known for its laid-back vibes. In fact, ‘sip back and relax’ is this bar’s motto. The outdoor patio at Schmitty’s is a grassy oasis, and the vertical gardens indoors create a lush, leafy feeling. The Guinness on draft doesn’t hurt, either. It’s quaint and a great low-key spot locally — with a few TV’s inside for a laid-back night while watching some hockey. Plus, this spot is dog-friendly, so bring your pup with you and watch a Devils game.
