• Battello Planning to Reopen This Summer in Jersey City

Both brides/grooms and local restaurant patrons can rejoice — Battello is said to be receiving keys to its property at the end of June, and they’ll be hopefully reopening shortly thereafter! The beloved waterfront restaurant, bar, and event venue located at 502 Washington Boulevard in Jersey City was closed for construction on its pier for over six months {and counting}.

A rep for the restaurant shared exclusively with Hoboken Girl, “the owners of Battello have been told by their landlord that they expect for them to be able to access the property on June 30th, but as with all things construction, there are no guarantees. From there, the team will get back to work, with the goal of having their doors open to the public by August.”

We’re THRILLED to have them return to the growing Jersey City waterfront scene, and know many couples looking for a wedding venue will be as well. If you’ve never been to Battello, you’re in for a treat; the restaurant and bar, which originally opened in 2014, has some of the best views {not to mention cocktails and food!} on this side of the Hudson.

    The backstory of the closing:

Beginning in mid-September of 2017, Battello was forced to close its doors for construction. On Thursday, August 3, 2017, Battello’s landlord, Newport Marine Holdings, LLC, verbally notified Battello that as early as the middle of September 2017, all operations at the restaurant must cease due to construction that will be performed by the landlord on the premises. The landlord has projected the construction will be completed sometime in early spring 2018, meaning all weddings and events during that time were immediately cancelled.

Then, all of a sudden, in mid-August, the landlord notified Battello that they would have to cease any occupation of the property immediately — and that all access to the pier must be restricted as of 5:00 PM the day of the notification. The closing was upsetting news for all of Battello’s devoted customers, but particularly devastating for those who had weddings scheduled at the venue. In fact, two weddings were planned for that weekend. Fortunately, Battello’s wedding planners were able to help the brides find new venues in a pinch.

At the time of the unfortunate closing, a source shared that the two head event planners, Dominique and Jade continued to aid brides and grooms in finding other venue spaces through 2017 and early 2018.

Though they are not booking any weddings or events just yet {as the length of construction is still TBD}, it’s definitely a positive step in the right direction for this treasure of a space in downtown Jersey City. Battello, we’re excited to have you back! Stay tuned for updates as they come.
