Few cocktails are more refreshing on a hot day than the perfect concoction, which is the mojito. Between the refreshing lime and mint flavors and the subtle punch of rum, it just tastes like summer days by the pool. It’s only fitting then that National Mojito Day lies in the heart of summer — it’s celebrated every year on July 11th. Despite the drink’s traditional Cuban roots, no airline ticket is needed to find a well-crafted version of the bev today.  Read on for our favorite mojito-making spots in Hoboken and Jersey City for your celebrating convenience.

Barbès | 1300 Park Avenue, Hoboken

This Uptown Moroccan spot has a unique take on a mojito with vodka instead of rum. Called ‘The Rock’n Moroccan,’ it’s served with vodka, agave syrup, fresh lime juice, and mint leaves over crushed ice. The food is a North African + French blend, making for flavorful and delicious eats to go alongside a super refreshing drink.

Hobbs Inc

We highly recommend this spot for guacamole and a crisp fajita salad — and, of course, for a mojito. The mango mojito is an ideal combination of light + refreshing with a sweet, bright note to it. You also can’t go wrong with a classic mojito.

Belo Bar | 104 Hudson Street

Lola’s | 153 14th Street, Hoboken

This Spanish wine bar + tapas spot might be known for its sangria, but don’t sleep on the mojito. The mojitos are ice cold, packed with mint (as they should be), and super refreshing.

Orale Mexican Kitchen | 1426 Willow Avenue, Hoboken + 341 Grove Street, Jersey City

We swear, the second you walk into Orale you just feel cooler. We’re not sure whether it’s the graffitied walls, the live music, or the Day of the Dead decor, but it’s a place you instantly want to hang out in. The good news today is this tequila bar also offers a super unique take on a classic mojito: The Pina Colada Mojito. While it’s not on the menu, you can still request this tasty drink.

Rumba Cubana | 235 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City

Yes, another Cuban spot — because of course, Cuban spots serve the best mojitos. Rumba Cubana has five locations throughout New Jersey. Diners are not starved for mojito options here. There’s a classic with rum, mint leaves, lime, sugar, + soda); a skinny mojito with agave nectar instead of sugar; a tropical mojito with pineapple + coconut rum; a Rumbero mojito with sugar cane rum; and a spicy mojito with spicy rum + fresh jalapeño wedges.

South House | 149 Newark Avenue, Jersey City

You might not think this Jersey City bar known for its Southern food and eclectic decorations would be a top mojito destination, but that’s only because you haven’t tried the renowned Midnight Mojito. The cocktail offers a mix of Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, mint, strawberry, orange, fresh-squeeze lime, sugar, and a splash of lemon-lime soda.

The Cuban | 333 Washington Street

Take a trip to Havana without leaving Washington Street with dinner and drinks at the Cuban. The place bursts with authenticity and the mojitos are strong and well-made. Patrons can choose between a classic Cuban Mojito and flavors such as mango, passionfruit, pineapple coconut, and guava (be warned: while delicious, adding a fruit does give it a sweeter taste than the refreshing sip mojitos are known for).

The Hutton | 225 Hutton Street, Jersey City

The Hutton is a restaurant, bar, and wine bar in JC that serves up comfort food in a pub setting. Here, you can try out the Stormy Mojito made with Bacardi Limon, Goslings Rum, fresh lime, and mint, and chill out on the back patio to enjoy the summer weather.
