Antique Bar + Bakery  | 122 Willow Avenue

This beloved local spot has so many fun takes on Italian classics plus appetizers that change seasonally. Hands down our favorite seafood appetizer is the hot oil shrimp with dirty lemon served with a side of the renowned crusty bread, perfect for sopping up every last taste of the zesty sauce.

The menu at Augustino’s is stacked with some of the best Italian food around. For apps, we recommend fried shrimp marinara (sweet, medium, or hot sauce) or shrimp in brandy sauce. For entrees, shrimp francaise with shrimp scampi or shrimp marinara with clams and mussels over linguine are both top choices of ours. Or, stick to the Italian classic and order the shrimp parmigiana — breaded and baked with mozzarella and tomato sauce.

Although Court Street is known for Prime Rib Mondays, Wednesday Lobsterfests, and an award-winning wine list, this Hoboken staple also has fresh seafood on the menu. The quintessential jumbo shrimp cocktail is an excellent choice for an appetizer, and it comes with plenty of hollandaise sauce for dipping. For an entree, choices include shrimp francaise, shrimp piccata, shrimp marsala, or even shrimp parmigiana served with linguini marinara.

This is the spot to try a Cuban-Latin take on the classic crustacean. For the entrees, try the ceviche de camaron (jumbo shrimp with yellow tamarillo sauce, served on ripe plantain and toasted Andean corn) or the chulete de credo frita (shrimp in red mole sauce over fresh corn). For an ultra-traditional dish, check out the shrimp mofongo.

Drink specials, live music, great ambiance, and great seafood — The Cuban has it all. While a good part of the menu consists of old-school Latin American dishes, there are numerous shrimp-focused plates to try. For appetizers, we recommend the escabeche de camaron (pickled shrimp, roasted tomato, jalapeno, avocado, sherry hot sauce, + old bay plantain chips) or camaron al ajillo (garlic shrimp, guindilla pepper, + toasted bread).  And when it comes to entrees: mar y tierra is a must-try. It consists of grilled hanger steak, garlic shrimp, cream spinach, roasted potato, and chimichurri. The Paella Valenciana is also a can’t-miss order, made with saffron rice, bay scallops, shrimp, mussels, clams, chorizo, chicken, and garlic aioli.

Grand Vin has a crowd-pleasing menu that features contemporary Italian and American dishes. One seafood menu item we particularly love is the stuffed shrimp — stuffed with prosciutto, mozzarella, and spinach in a lemon butter sauce along with parmesan risotto.

This uptown spot is known for serving some of the best Italian comfort food in town, and the seafood is no exception. When it comes to shrimp, we can’t get enough of the baked shrimp scampi appetizer which includes shrimp, lemon, butter, white wine, garlic, and parsley. For an entree, we also suggest the shrimp piccata (green beans, lemon, capers, and white wine over spaghetti), or the shrimp parmigiana.

BYOB spot La Casa serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and brunch. The menu incorporates many classic apps like papa rellena, empanadas, and tostones are available as well as other staples like steak churrasco, mofongo, ropa vieja, and bistec sandwiches. When it comes to shrimp, Camarones Al Ajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce) is one of our typical orders — but we always love the crispy, breaded fried shrimp also known as Camarones Empanizado.

La Isla serves traditional Cuban food made from the freshest and most genuine ingredients with culinary influences from throughout the Caribbean, Spain, and other Latin American countries. The menu is full of delicious items, but we’re here for the shrimp. Try the sautéed spicy rubbed shrimp app for a starter and for entrees, we love the Camarones Enchilados (creole style sautéed jumbo shrimp, peppers, olives, + onions) or the Camarones al Ajillo (sautéed jumbo shrimp in a white wine garlic sauce). We also love the Arroz Chino-Cubano — grilled shrimp, vegetable, and egg stir-fried rice with peas, soy, and cabbage.

For any occasion and seafood craving, Lola’s Tapas Bar is an ideal spot for traditional Spanish cuisine. The menu at Lola’s has a variety of shrimp dishes for all palates. Spice lovers will enjoy camarones ‘pica que te pica’ (shrimp in a hot tomato sauce), while everyone will enjoy Lola’s take on things with camarones al estilo Lola’s (shrimp rolled with country ham and tomato sauce, Lola’s style).

Margherita’s has everything from iconic Italian pasta dishes like cavatelli and broccoli to seafood like lobster ravioli and seafood Margherita. And although we love the pizza and Italian classics, we promise the wide variety of shrimp dishes are worth ordering too. The shrimp fra diablo is absolutely delicious and consists of sautéed shrimp in spicy marinara over homemade linguine. Another great entree option is the seafood Margherita — sautéed shrimp, calamari, clams, and mussels served family-style over homemade linguine with garlic, white wine, or zesty marinara sauce.

The food at Seven Valleys is as traditional as it is flavor-filled. The team imports many ingredients directly from Iran. The menu boasts a ton of delicious seafood options, including shrimp. We highly suggest the shrimp kabob — which includes marinated shrimp cooked in a special saffron butter sauce, served with baghali polo.

Sirenetta’s menu features an amazing raw bar selection with assorted shellfish and seasonal crudo, plus homemade pasta and entrees. Aside from the fresh shrimp cocktail and seafood towers, the spicy shrimp frites appetizer is zesty, grilled, and served with house-made French fries — perfect to share with the table.

South StrEAT | 36 Newark Street

South StrEAT Ghost Kitchen serves up huge, comforting ramen bowls filled with fresh ingredients, poke bowls, sushi burritos, and salads, among other options. With seafood at the center of the menu, we suggest trying the shrimp bao bun appetizer — shrimp tempura, lettuce, cucumber, peanut sauce, cilantro, and peanuts.

This gem of a cocktail and seafood bar has creative cocktails, an Instagrammable vibe, and a happy hour menu every day, including weekends. The team doesn’t mess around when it comes to the seafood selection and the space has both a raw bar around a chef’s table and a full kitchen for appetizers made-to-order. The menu changes weekly based on the market, so diners can expect something different with each visit. The shrimp cocktail is a classic happy hour order. For dinner, we like the spicy jumbo shrimp.
