There is nothing more nourishing in the winter {or freezing cold spring} than a big bowl of soup, but for you dairy-free folks, it can be hard to find a satisfying soup that isn’t loaded with heavy cream. Packed full of nutrients, hydration, and comfort, here are our top spots in Jersey City to grab some dairy-free {but oh so comforting} soup. The best vegan soups in Jersey City, for your slurping pleasure:

Salt + Seed {1 Harborside Financial Center Plaza}

Salt + Seed is located in the Harborside Financial building’s food court and is only open for lunch time, so make sure to get over to the food court and try their soup of the day. Soups du jour have included vegan split pea soup, a potato leek soup made with celery and cashew cream, and their best-selling chili made from beans, bell peppers, onions, garlic, tomato and herbs.

Ani Ramen {218 Newark Ave, Jersey City}

Vegan ramen is hard to come by, but thankfully there’s Ani Ramen’s No.4. This vegetarian soup is made with an all vegetable broth, egg-free noodles, sesame soy tare with roasted bean sprouts, spinach, enoki mushrooms and scallions. This soup is a straight up meal in a bowl.

Hobbs Inc

Mathews Food and Drink {351 Grove Street}

Mathews Food and Drink always has a vegan special soup of the day, like the vegan butternut squash bisque garnished with fried sage — the. bomb. Other crowd-pleasers are the carrot coconut ginger soup and the vegan matzo ball soup with chive oil.

Subia’s Vegan Cafe {506 Jersey Avenue}

Subias Organic Market’s soup of the day is always changing, yet always guaranteed to comfort. Check out their rotating menu of healthy soups including lentil, coconut curry stew, quinoa vegetable, and sweet potato. This vegan spot also serves up a great chili — chock full of mixed lentils, spicy chili with quinoa, sprouted rice, roasted purple sweet potatoes, carrots, and leafy greens. A chili variation special once consisted of black bean, red quinoa, seitan asada, chili and portabella mushrooms topped with cilantro potato sour cream and aged cashew cheddar.

TEA NJ {262 Newark Avenue}

Tea NJ always has a special soup of the day, but thankfully their hearty vegan chili has become a daily staple. They have also a non-chicken noodle soup for the soul made with vegan “chicken,” loaded with cilantro in a light warming broth.
