Remember how your parents told you it wasn’t acceptable to play with your food? That’s definitely a thing of the past because at Birch, the latest bar to open in Hoboken, they’ve got some drool-worthy, candy-covered milkshakes that are as Instagram-worthy as they are delicious. We recently got a super-exclusive peek at the menu, which includes seven milkshakes that can include liquor {aka you can “spike” it} as well as an extensive cocktail and burger list — AND we’ve teamed up with Birch to create the ultimate “local” masterpiece: The #HobokenGirlShake.

We’ll share a little bit about how we went about creating the milkshake but first…

…a few of the Birch menu’s {crazy/amazing} shakes. These creations range from $13-$15 dollars, and if you add liquor, it’s an additional $4 {BUUUUT if you mention Hoboken Girl [as part of our new deals directory], you’ll get your milkshake spiked, fo’ FREE}. Add Bailey’s, Creme de Mint, Amaretto, Kahula, or Rum for when you’re looking for a little extra kick. Regardless of what you choose, one thing is certain: all your Instagram followers will be super jealous.

Okay back to business. We’re so excited to have teamed up with Birch to craft the perfect HG milkshake as an ode to some of our favorite local treats made here in Hoboken. So without further ado: presenting the official #HobokenGirlShake!

#HobokenGirlShake

Ingredients:

yoga renew hoboken
  • Chocolate chip cookies from OM Sweet Home
  • Dark chocolate chunks from Lepore’s
  • Sugar cookies from Baking Mama with our HG logo
  • Cannolis from Giorgio’s {this one was a large cannoli, sometimes it may be a smaller one so don’t be alarmed, we’re saving you a few grams of sugar}
  • {All atop a glazed doughnut}
  • Nutella-dipped chocolate pretzel and chocolate chips on top
  • Cookie dough ice cream + Nutella
  • Whipped cream
  • Nutella-dipped rim with chocolate chips
  • Chocolate chips on top for the finishing touch

Mic drop. Yes, you can order this when you visit Birch, and yes, you’ll get Kahlua added to it if you request it {it’s complimentary}.

In case you were wondering, the path to this shake’s creation wasn’t easy. We knew we wanted to incorporate locally made ingredients, which is what we love so much about this area. And Nutella, obviously. So we searched high and low for a bakery that could make a sugar cookie with our logo on it:

^Baking Mama’s Sugar Cookie on a stick with our logo

Then, we knew we had to add some pizazz to our cookie dough ice cream + Nutella. We rimmed the outside of the glass with Nutella and chocolate chip cookies from Om Sweet Home {whipped cream in the middle, obviously}.

Then — add a doughnut on top.

Now once you go in on some Nutella, there’s no stopping. So we added in a Nutella-dipped pretzel covered in chocolate chips, topped it with whipped cream because why not, and then added some Lepore’s [yes the Hoboken chocolate OG] chocolate chunks to top off the whipped cream.

But still, it felt like something was missing. After much deliberation and Hoboken soul-searching, however, we figured it out: a cannoli! And if you’re going with a cannoli, a popular place you can go for authentic old school Italian Hoboken vibes is Giorgio’s. So that’s exactly what we did:

Final #HobokenGirlShake product {because you know you wanna see it twice}:

^Yes, there’s a doughnut under there.

And — it’s worth mentioning yet again that you can spike it with Kahlua {normally $4, but if you mention Hoboken Girl when you order, you get it spiked free of charge!}. Now if you’re needing insulin just looking at our creation, wait til you see the rest. Since we couldn’t pick a favorite, we figured we’d go ham and share all of the creations you can order on the menu. Here are a few more milkshake faves from Birch:

What better way to show how crazy you are about peanut butter and chocolate than with an official Birch milkshake.

Ingredients:

  • Butterfinger Crunch
  • Chocolate Covered Rim
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Pie
  • Assorted Chocolate Pretzels
  • Reese’s Pieces

You can also order artisan cocktails and food, if a milkshake doesn’t do the trick. Most notably, they’ve got a killer craft burger menu, which includes the OMG…French Onion Burger {yes, it’s really called that}, the Veggie Burger, the Chipotle Burger and the Cheese Lover Burger {there are THREE types of cheeses on it}. To go along with your grassfed burger, Birch serves unique fry options including white truffle fries, cheesy fries, loaded fries — and of course some plain and classic fries. Of course we can’t forget that they offer salads, but after your milkshake, you’ll probably be craving a burger to match. Is that normal?

Below is the “Birch Smoked” Pre-Prohibition Old Fashioned — in which the bartender actually light wood on fire to smoke the inside of the glass. Legit.

Overall, the vibe at Birch is fun and inviting with a yummy dessert, food, and drink menu — a bar on the first floor {shares a space with Mike’s Saloon}, and a nightlife/club eventspace on the second and third level. Perfect way to turn up and burn some cals dancing on a weekend after you’ve downed a milkshake. Truth be told, it was so inspiring to see firsthand how much time, energy, and creative thinking went into these shake creations that are sure to cure your sugar [or Instagram] blues. So happy to have Birch apart of the neighborhood!
