What Alice Forgot, Liane Mortiary

Have you ever thought about what your life will be like in 10 years? Main character, Alice, has fallen down at the gym and woke up forgetting the last 10 years of her life. She doesn’t remember having three children or that she is the midst of divorcing her husband. Fans that are missing HBO’s Big Little Lies, must pick up Liane Mortiary’s early novel — it’s a great light read for the beach.

Everything, Everything, Nicole Yoon

If you loved The Fault in Our Stars you will easily enjoy this read. Young romance, an illness, and some teenage texting set the stage for a book that will make you think, but will also make you laugh. Super quick read. P.S. It was also made into a movie so we’ll see you at Bow tie Cinemas in Hoboken for cheap movie Tuesday {$6 movie ticket and a $5 large bucket of popcorn}!

I am Malala, Malala Yousafzai

Malala is a true inspiration for all girls. If you are looking to take break from fiction this summer, this autobiography will take you through the early life of Malala and her family in Pakistan. Learn about her struggle for education, how she found her voice, and then became a target of the Taliban. We pretty much guarantee you will end up doing endless amounts of research and YouTubing once you are done reading in order to learn more about this woman’s extraordinary life.

The Nightingale, Kristen Hannah

The romantic tale of two sisters struggling in France during World War II, this historical fiction novel gives a different view point of wartime heroines. If you are looking for a book filled with emotions, then this is the winner for you. You will not be able to put this book down.

Girls in White Dresses, Jennifer Close

Wedding season is upon us and this book will give you the laughs to get through all the bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and wedding nights this summer. Too funny to put down! Jane Close will make you laugh out loud remembering your early 20s, when things seemed so confusing {have they gotten any easier?}. Warning: you will fall in love with at least one character and laugh publicly on the PATH during your commute.

The Handmaids Tale, Margaret Atwood

Set in the somewhat near future in the United States, this book follows the main character, Offred, whose life is completely changed after the US government is overthrown. If you are in the mood for book with a more serious twist, this is definitely where you should dive in. This one will no doubt make you think. And bonus: check out the new series adaptation on HULU when you finish.
