In Hudson County, we know that breakfast is NO joke. And when you’re looking to take it to the next level, Brownstone Pancake Factory is where it’s at. If you’ve never been to this breakfast spot, it’s a Jersey City-founded diner that now has a second location in Edgewater and was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives . They’re known for their pancakes and other delectable menu items, all with a creative twist. Here’s a bit more about this pancake haven in Jersey City {426 Jersey Ave} and Edgewater {860 River Road}, oh, and this creation:

Yes, this is a red velvet pancake with cream cheese icing. Game over, #TheEnd. But, since you’re probably wondering what else is on the menu, here are a few more of our favorites from Brownstone’s menu:

Club Pilates 2023

Peanut butter, chocolate chip, and banana pancakes {and yes, while we wish that the banana chunks were inside of the pancakes, they were on top, boooo}. However, being able to request peanut butter on the side totally made up for it!

Hobbs Inc

A side of home fries = always a necessity, because carbs. The menu boasts a wide array of items — including French toast, breakfast sandwiches, Belgian waffles, healthy egg white platters, salads, soups, wraps, and sooOoo much more.

There are also a plethora of milkshake menu options, and even though basic vanilla was the final version, it suuuure was purdy {read: licking and scooping the cereal crumbs and sprinkles off the side of the glass, nbd}.

Other must-orders on the menu:

The Guy Fieri buffalo pancake wrap {chicken tenders inside of a giant pancake; how could one go wrong?}, French onion grilled cheese {comes with fries and a bowl of onion soup for dipping}, and any of the French toasts {they come with a delish challah bread that is soft but crispy}. And of course, red velvet or Oreo pancakes, please, thank you, and goodnight.

For the healthier options, Edgewater has a small juice bar that you can enjoy with a wide array of smoothies and protein shakes {almond milk included} — and açai bowls.

The Edgewater location — with a ton more space {and valet parking}

As far as parking, Jersey City’s diner parking is tough {we know, #firstworldprobz}, so it may be best to Uber or Lyft over. And to make matters a bit worse, the wait is usually long [New Year’s Day in Edgewater the wait was over an hour, and we’ve left Jersey City’s location before because the wait was insaaaane], but promise, if you have some time, it’s worth it. If you have time to go during the week, make it happen, because it’s definitely less crowded.

And in case you’re thinking this spot is a major chain, think again. Founded by Peter and Irene, Jersey City locals, Brownstone started over 45 years ago when they bought a tiny subway car diner. What grew from there was an amazing menu and second location, with national recognition of their dishes and diner vibe. Loving it.

Hours are 7AM-10PM at the Edgewater location daily {oh and they have valet!}, and the hours at Jersey City location are 6AM – 9PM.

Have you been to the Brownstone? What did you think?
