Locals in the Hoboken Reddit thread have been speculating whether or not the bakery was closed for almost two weeks now.

One user said “I’ve tried to stop in a few times over the last month and they’ve been closed. Lights out, nothing on the shelves, regular hours still posted, and no sign or note in the window. Are they just closed for the summer?”

Other residents chimed into the conversation, with another user saying that Cafe Unibread reduced the shelf space and amount of goods that were out about a month ago. Someone else also captured a photo of the eviction notice a week ago.

Upon further investigation, Cafe Unibread’s website is no longer working, and its phone is disconnected. As of today at 1:15PM, Google officially lists the bakery as permanently closed.

HG reached out to Cafe Unibread via Instagram but did not receive a response. We called the Fort Lee location and the team there was able to confirm the closure, saying the bakery closed its doors about a month ago.

Previously known as Sunmerry Bakery, the spot rebranded to Cafe Unibread in 2021. The Hoboken location was home to high-quality breads and pastries — serving up a variety of savory and sweet treats. The menu items had various cultural influences, including French and Asian inspirations like chocolate croissants and taro pastry buns. Some of the American-inspired savory items, the bacon cheese pizza or the mushroom cheese bun, were served as meals. The spot also had milk tea, as well as various coffee drinks like iced mocha lattes.
