  • HG Happy Place: Choc O Pain French Bakery + Cafe

It’s not hard to fall in love with Choc O Pain French Bakery + Cafe on 1st Street in Hoboken. With its delicious aroma of bread, coffee, and chocolate as well as its cozy and clean environment, this spot is an HG fave for a cup of coffee or tea and some baked goodies in Hoboken. Oh, and did we mention the macaroons? No? Well, we do below. Keep reading…

When you walk into Choc O Pain, you feel like you have momentarily stepped inside of a European cafe. There is French music playing and fresh flowers along with bread and pastries galore. You’ll legit feel like you’re in Paris… not complaining.

The lovely thing about this little bakery is that it is independently owned and operated. The owner is ACTUALLY French {can you say authentic?} and that relaxed and quaint vibe embodies the locale. It is the perfect addition to the bustling area of downtown Hoboken!

As far as coffee and teas, Choc O Pain has an extensive menu. We suggest the Rooibos tea — though if you want to sweeten it up a bit, you can add a bit of agave nectar {organic, of course}.

And don’t just take our word for it — HG friends who have come to Choc O Pain with us rave about everything, from the bread to the sandwiches to the actual choc au pain. An HG fave? The macaroons. They are deeelish. Below are the chocolate, lemon, and salted caramel macaroons. So good, soooo good.

    More pastries…

They do have one gluten free item: gluten-free chocolate cake! It’s always a good sign when there are so many pieces missing from a gluten-free cake.

This is the kind of place that makes supporting local business easy. Whether you just want to grab espresso on the go or sit down and enjoy the FREE Wifi with an iced coffee and a croque monsieur, Choc O Pain is the place to go. And, they just opened their second store in Jersey City. Yeeees.

Have you been? Tell us about your fave goodies!
