Living here in Hudson County we are definitely spoiled for choices when it comes to sandwiches. From the fillings to the breads, we’re surrounded by top-notch choices. Team HG got to thinking, what about croissant sandwiches? These crispy, crunchy delights are probably some of the more underappreciated menu items around town. Keep reading for a list of some of our favorite croissant sandwiches in Hoboken and Jersey City.
Hoboken
Black Rail | 800 Jackson Street

Centrally located in Hoboken, Black Rail is a coffee shop perfect for those looking for a tasty meal to pair with their beverage. It is located right next to the Light Rail that runs through the back end of Hoboken and Jersey City. The croissant sandwich is a crowd favorite and something you don’t want to miss. Any of the breakfast sandwiches can be made on a croissant. The two most popular combinations are the sausage, egg, and American cheese and the bacon, egg, and Swiss cheese.
bwè kafe | 1002 Washington Street, 1401 Adams Street, Hoboken, + 140 River Drive S, Jersey City

Bwè kafe means “drink coffee” in Haitian Creole. The shop is run by a Hoboken family and the inspiration for it came after the 2010 Haiti earthquake – their goals are to create a sustainable source of funding for Love For Haiti by selling coffee & goods to the Hoboken and Jersey City area. Along with the variety of coffee you can buy, the “bwèkfast sandwich” here is the most popular. It comes with scrambled eggs and gruyere cheese in a crispy croissant, along with a house-made sweet & spicy sriracha dip (yum!).

Simple but delicious is Choc ● O ●Pain’s forte. All of the breads are baked in the traditional European way, using only four basic ingredients: flour, water, leavening, and a little bit of salt. The croissant that is a must-try is the Croissant Jambon Emmental. Other croissant sandwiches can be personalized with toppings such as smoked ham, grain mustard, swiss cheese, and arugula pictured here.

Dolce + Salato | 1101 Grand Street
This traditional Italian bakery and cafe has both breakfast and lunch covered when it comes to croissants. At breakfast time, croissants are available plain or filled with jam, Nutella, or custard. At lunch, we like the Black Forest Ham sandwich on a croissant. It’s the ultimate contrast with the sharp flavors of the ham mixed with creamy Brie cheese against the rich backdrop of a crispy croissant.
La Bouche Cafe | 207 Washington Street

La Bouche Cafe is a cafe and bistro right on Washington Street downtown, perfect for a morning stop before hopping on the PATH. The croissant sandwich is mouth-wateringly good. It is made with a Balthazar croissant, cheddar cheese omelet, and greens with a choice of bacon or ham.

With the option to customize the sandwich totally, Little Grocery’s croissant sandwich is a winner, every day of the week. It is built on a Balthazar Bakery Butter Croissant with the option to add smoked salmon, avocado, egg whites, tomato, cheese, and many more toppings for the perfect sandwich.
Tosti | 1024 Washington Street

Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Tosti Cafe really has it all. The croissant sandwich on the menu is the turmeric tuna sandwich which is a croissant with turmeric tuna, red onions, provolone, apple & raspberry compote. It sounds wild but the sweet and savory combo works – the flavor profiles mesh so well and make for a no-brainer decision.
Jersey City
Cafe Madelaine | 34 Coles Street
While most downtown Jersey City neighbors love this charming cafe for its next-level desserts, we’ll let you in on a little secret. The Turkey and Cheddar Croissant is what a Hot Pocket wishes it could be. If the layers of flaky deliciousness surrounding the savory cheese and turkey weren’t enticing enough, the croissant can be heated up to enjoy for a warming breakfast or lunch in-store or on the go.
The Cottage | 136 Monticello Avenue
This dish technically isn’t a sandwich but it’s too good not to include in this list. The Cottage’s Stuffed French Toast is the stuff of dreams. Choose between cookie butter or Nutella for a filling and you’ve got a meal fit for royalty.
Crema | 1 Duncan Avenue
Crema serves Jersey City beverages, pastries, sandwiches, desserts – pretty much everything one could want. The three croissants on Crema’s menu are worth trying ASAP. Check out the Ham Cheese and Eggs Croissant, the Ham & Cheese Croissant, or the Prosciutto, Tomato, and Cheese croissant.
