It’s really great when a new ice cream shop or Gelateria opens in Hudson County… unless you can’t have dairy. Then it’s really not so great. But don’t worry, dairy-free friends! Your girls here at HGHQ understand your woes. We’ve rounded up some of the best dairy-free treats found in Jersey City and we’ve laid them out here for you. Plan accordingly and enjoy!

In case you didn’t know, Word Bookstore {located in the heart of the pedestrian walk in downtown Jersey City} has a cafe loaded with non-dairy items. There is usually a vegan soup of the day along with grab n’ go vegan pastries and savory goods. Specifically, you will find Om Sweet Home parfaits made with the healthiest nondairy yogurt, Anita’s Creamline Yogurt. Bread + Spoon also sells many delicious non-dairy items like vegan pear scones, vegan donuts, chickpea salad and quinoa salad. Baonanas sells the non-dairy version of their famous banana pudding {both coconut and Oreo}, but they sell out fast.

Available at Hudson Play, Sprout, Key Food, Hudson Greene Market, Bloomsbury Sq, Asana Soul Practice, Devotion Yoga {and locally made with lots of love}, Elements Truffles is committed both literally and figuratively to the health of community. Every employee donates at least five hours per week giving back to the community and 25% of the proceeds from these Ayurvedic-inspired chocolates goes to educational programs for underprivileged children in India. So much pride is put into this product from the raw ingredients to the artisanal packaging. Made with raw local honey and essential oils, these dairy-free chocolates contain few ingredients and absolutely no refined sugars or preservatives. Exotic flavors include orange pistachio, raspberry beet, rose cardamom, turmeric sea salt, and peppermint lavender.

Milk Sugar Love has the creamiest non-dairy ice cream we’ve ever tasted! There is always one non-dairy flavor of the day available by the scoop. Pints of popular flavors like coconut chocolate are available at Cool Vines and single servings at Koro Koro.

Vintage Plantations makes a few vegan chocolate bars made from rice milk that are hands down the best vegan “milk” chocolate around. Available at Mana Contemporary with other vegan variations sold at Cool Vines, Jersey Wines, and Hudson Greene Market.

You wouldn’t expect a cheese shop to have non-dairy options, but for anyone looking for the BEST and healthiest non-dairy butter, you can find locally made Om Sweet Home’s Non-Dairy Butter Alternative made from coconut milk. It tastes, melts, spreads and whips like, well… like butter.

Karmalize Me {Delivery}

Locally made almond milk and nut butters, Karmalize makes and personally delivers fresh, raw almond milk to your door. Everything is organic, non GMO and 50% of their proceeds are donated to a charity of your choice. They also make organic sunflower seed butter, hazelnut butter, almond butter and coffee infused almond butter. You can sometimes catch them at the Hamilton Park Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays, but contact them ahead of time at 862-955-3492.
