The Hoboken Girl recently broke news that local boutique a X d is moving from 503 Washington Street to 730 Washington Street in Hoboken. When one door opens, another one closes: Dune + Salt, an upscale clothing store that has called this location home since 2019, is closing its Hoboken location for good. Though Dune + Salt is departing the Mile Square, the boutique is setting its sites on another New Jersey locale, and its Bay Head, Fair Haven, and Spring Lake storefronts remain open. Read on for what to know about Dune + Salt’s Hoboken closure.

Dune + Salt’s Departure

On March 17th, HG shared that a X d is relocating to another spot on Washington Street, near its sister shop Alba Boutique. A few days later, we received further details that the business is relocating to 730 Washington Street, in the former Dune + Salt location.

After some investigating, the Dune + Salt team confirmed that it’s leaving Hoboken for good. The Jersey Shore-based clothing + accessory shop — which has three other locations in South Jersey — is on the hunt for a new NJ storefront. No location has been confirmed yet, but the team shared that their sites are set in North or Central Jersey.

While we wait for details on its fourth location, shoppers can still find Dune + Salt in Bay Head, Fair Haven, and Spring Lake, New Jersey.

Local boutique a X d, known for its under $100 concept and trendy clothing pieces, is moving to 730 Washington Street, just a few doors down from its sister brand Alba Boutique at 716 Washington Street.

Moving details are still TBD, but the retail shop will still remain affordable and feature brands like BlankNYC, Quay, and Vintage Havana + Hayden LA, as well as some newer companies to explore.

There will also be a studio in the back of the space dedicated to The Little Charm Bar, a build-your-own charm necklace concept from the team behind a X d and Alba.

How Dune + Salt Came to Be

Christopher Cox and Michael Martinez are business partners, long-time friends, and owners of the clothing and accessory boutique, Dune + Salt. In 2019, Michael, a Hoboken resident, saw that 730 Washington Street, the site of the former Hudson Keys, was closing and knew exactly what to do with the 400-square-foot space. “Everything lined up so we decided to just go for it,” Micheal shared with HG. And so Dune + Salt was born. The Mile Square store officially opened on Small Business Saturday, November 30th, 2019.

The mission of Dune + Salt is simple: give back to the community and be a sustainable option for customers. That’s why everything sold at Dune + Salt has a purpose behind it. The store’s goal is to sell locally made, U.S.-based, or fair trade items that are attached to a charity or organization, which is why, at Dune + Salt, guests can find men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing and accessories from eco-friendly brands like Outerknown, Hartford, Frank + Eileen, and Kule.
