Hobokenites are totally spoiled for choice. Like…walk out our door to find amazing meals within 3 blocks spoiled. But after visiting the totally fresh and refurbished Mitchell’s Fish Market in Edgewater, NJ {which used to be Crab House Restaurant}, it’s easy to see there are plenty of reasons to take a quick ride up the river and dine out [of town!] once in a while. Here’s a peek inside this new spot on a pier at 541 River Road, Edgewater — and why you must get there STAT.

Walking into Mitchell’s, the atmosphere is laid back, comfortable, and very group friendly. Almost immediately, you’ll see an assortment of fresh fish lounging on a bed of ice. One can actually BUY this fish (it is a fish market after all) but if you’re there for immediate noms, continued to your table…which will likely have an awesome view.

^Had to snag this pic from the website since it’s winter now and we dined at night. But views = gorg!

Let’s talk VIEWS for a minute. Mitchell’s is literally perched on a pier way out on the Hudson River. You cannot beat eating delish seafood with a view of Manhattan from most tables. Do plan on coming back for cocktails & apps on the outdoor patio. But for now, here’s what to order while you’re lounging inside with a glass of vino or a signature cocktail…

There’s a few menu items you can’t really find in Hoboken. First, note the New Orleans-style grilled oysters with butter & Parm on the menu. Squeeze that lemon and take us back to NOLA please! Honorable mentions go to the calamari with flash fried green beans & chili-soy dipping sauce and the bacon wrapped BBQ shrimp with sticky rice. There’s no shortage of creative appetizers here, people.

The unique part of Mitchell’s is the fish market combined with the restaurant. You can literally pick out your fish beforehand and then the whole crispy snapper served on a big, sizzling tray with fried rice & cilantro sauce. Omg. Way too much fun. It’s something you won’t find as easily in Hoboken and worth a try! Plus, it pretty much feeds two.

^Before, at the in-restaurant market. You can buy fresh seafood here if you want.

^After, at the table. Ah-mah-zing.

After dinner activities: Mistuwa Marketplace {AKA the largest Japanese supermarket in the US} is a short, lovely stroll on the waterfront away. Never been there? Make it part of the #HobokenTravels experience. Also: TJ Maxx and Bed Bath & Beyond are even closer if you’re in a Saturday pre- or post-dinner shopping mood.

All in all, you’ll quickly realize these are some delish seafood dishes you can’t find in Hoboken {Tutta Pesca, we’re coming for you!}.

So if you go, try something new, and enjoy the gorgeous view.
