Organized sports aren’t only for kids — and contrary to what Bruce Springsteen has to say about it, our glory days aren’t behind us. If you’ve been looking to dive back into the game, Hive Athletic is the largest sports league in Hoboken, Jersey City, and Weehawken. With over 10 different sports to choose from, joining a league is a great way to meet new people and add some fun to your weekly routine. Spring registration is open now until March 7th — with early registration closing February 14th — and we’ve got everything you need to know (including a special discount for HG readers). Keep reading to learn more about Hive Athletic, a social sports league in Hoboken, Jersey City, and Weehawken.
About Hive Athletic
Now is your chance to join a league of over 5,000 players in a variety of sports: Hive Athletic’s spring registration is officially open and running through March 7th, with early registration ending on February 14th. Players of all different skill levels and backgrounds are encouraged to play, whether you’re a former college athlete or haven't been on the field since kindergarten. The goal (pun intended) is to spread joy and build community by bringing people through sports.
“I have met some of my best friends playing Hive Athletics,” shared Shannon Groffie, known to her teammates as Spreadsheet Shan. “It’s been my favorite part about living in Hoboken!”
Hive Athletic has multiple levels of play available from a variety of sports. There are traditional sports like soccer, football, softball, + volleyball as well as social sports like kickball, dodgeball, cornhole, and pickleball. Regardless of background or ability level, players can decide whether they’d like to join a casual-level game or something more competitive.
A Community
While sports are the name of the game, Hive Athletic is really all about camaraderie. After every match, teams roll straight into happy hour — which isn’t required, of course, but definitely encouraged.
“I joined a little over a year ago. The Hive is a family and a community,” shared Hive Athletic member, Victor Mason. “We get together, have a good time, play sports, and go have a drink afterward and it really helps to build a bond here in Hoboken.”
Hoboken + Jersey City has so much to offer, but we know that the prospect of making new friends is intimidating, especially if you’re new to town. Hive Athletic takes a lot of that pressure off and fosters genuine, face-to-face connections.
Another Hive athlete, Nick shared, “I’ve met some of my closest friends in Hoboken through being placed randomly on a Hive kickball team. Kickball nights have evolved into weekend evenings out, Sundays watching football together, celebrating each other’s birthdays, and other fun memories with friends.
Don’t forget, use code ‘HOBOKENGIRL’ for 10% off individual registration for first-time players until 2/6/2026. Hive Athletic Leagues take place in Hoboken, Jersey City, and Weehawken. To join a team or learn more about the league, visit the site.
