As the summer heats up, everyone will be looking for ways to cool down — one of the best ways, of course, is with a yummy frozen treat. From ice cream to gelato to frozen drinks and more, Jersey City has a plethora of options for refreshing sweet tooth satisfiers because, #treatyoself. Read on for a list of some of our fave spots to grab a frozen treat in Jersey City to enjoy this summer:

Milk, Sugar, Love {19 McWilliams Place}

Emma Taylor, Chef and owner of Milk, Sugar, Love had the purest essence of summer in mind when creating her shop—simple ingredients to share during the warmest months of the year. This small-batch ice cream shop, located at 19 McWilliams Place, combines unique flavors with the smooth and creamy texture of ice cream for a decadent treat. Stop-by for a single scoop cone, a pint to take home and share, ice cream cake and more.

Cookies & Crepes {195 Newark Avenue}

Cookies and crepes and ice cream…a triple threat. Located at 195 Newark Avenue, this is a one-stop shop for all things sweet. In addition to their namesake, they have a great selection of ice cream to enjoy on its own or pair with another dessert. They serve classic favorites like mint chip, butter pecan and of course vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry and will pair them with their famous crepes and cookies for a well-rounded dessert.

There’s nothing fishy about a poke joint also having smoothie bowls. Tidal Poke Co has mastered the art of serving food in the convenience of a bowl. If a healthier sweet option sounds interesting, stop-by for one of three types of smoothie bowls they offer. Choose between Pink Pitaya, Super Greens, or Acai Berry with fruit and nut toppings. So good they can double as a meal or dessert.

Starting as a small deli in the late ‘60s, Torico has blossomed into a full ice-cream parlor complete with over 65 flavors. This family business is sure to make every customer smile. Come in to try traditional flavors like butter pecan, vanilla bean, and cookie dough or be daring with ginger, black sesame, or ube. They even have a seasonal menu with summer favorites like lychee, papaya, and guava sorbet.

Small batch is the name of the game at Bucket & Bay Gelato Co. But if you think this is just your average gelato shop, think again. Not only is this place serving up some of the tastiest cold treats, they are saving the world while doing so. They are working to eliminate as much food waste as possible by using only natural ingredients and using all aspects of the fruits they put in their gelato. They are known for their rich flavors so indulging will be extra special.

At the end of a long week, your frozen treat might require a little alcohol. If this is the case, head over to Surf City for a frozen drink. They have an extensive menu of frozen pina coladas, daiquiris, and margaritas to enjoy while outdoors. The atmosphere is great for a weekend afternoon with friends or a fun date night.

Sweetberry Bowls’ Hudson County location is 179 Newark St. making it super easy to stop-in for a swimsuit-friendly treat. BYOB {build your own bowl} or choose from one of their suggestions to instantly feel like a tropical island is not far away.

Connecting people across time and space through food is the goal of Ample Hills Creamery. They do just that through their homemade flavors like Salted Crack Caramel, Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, The Munchies, and Snap Mallow Pop. Unlike many other ice cream shops, Ample Hills also makes their own mix-ins so they are baking just as much as they are churning ice cream. From brownies to pistachio brittle, peppermint patties to honeycomb candy, Ample Hills puts heart and soul into every aspect of their desserts.

Conveniently located just steps away from the Grove Street PATH station, it’s hard to pass by without stopping in. Some of the creamiest yogurt known to the human race with endless topping choices, Downtown Yogurt has made a name for itself in Jersey City as not only a dessert shop, but a place to hang out with friends after dinner or celebrate a birthday. Their menu is always updated with new flavor options and they are now serving summer seasonal items like Raspberry Lime Mojito.

Jersey + Co. is a cute and trendy gelato that has endless amounts of flavors for everyone to try. A great way to cool off on a hot summer day {or during a heatwave} would be to grab one of the fresh fruit sorbets they make {yum}!

Angel’s Recipe Ice Cream {312 Central Avenue, Jersey City}
