Hoboken is home to more than 200 restaurants and bars in just one square mile. Finding a place to eat and drink with friends is easy, but if doing an activity without alcohol is in order, finding something else to do can prove difficult. Don’t worry, because we have a list of things to do in Hoboken where drinking isn’t required. Read on for our favorite things to do in Hoboken besides drinking (unless you want to!):

In the Summer

Watch a Movie on the Pier at Movies Under the Stars

Summer in Hoboken means one thing — loads of outdoor activities. Grab a blanket or a chair every Wednesday and head to Pier A through August to watch recent blockbusters like Coco, The Greatest Showman, and Ferdinand. Movies in July start at 9:00PM and will move up to 8:00PM in August. These evenings are fun for the whole family with pre-movie activities provided by My Gym Hoboken starting at 7:00PM.

It seems like almost every weeknight in the summer, there’s a fitness class to be had. The City of Hoboken hosts Fitness in the Park, which is a fun way to try out different classes on a regular basis. If it’s in the spring you read this, however, make sure to sign up for our Hoboken Wellness Crawl, which happens at the end of April annually!

Having direct access to the Hudson River means water sports are just a few blocks away. And the only thing we can think of better than taking in the elements while working out is doing it for free. At the intersection of Sinatra Drive and Maxwell Place, the Hoboken Cove Community Boat House provides free kayaking in the river throughout the summer. Be sure to check their website for the full schedule.

Go Rock Climbing at Gravity Vault | 1423 Clinton Street

Climb to new heights at one of Hoboken’s newest additions—Gravity Vault. Gravity Vault is an indoor, rock-climbing gym located uptown on 14th and Clinton. They have various options for climbing so that first-time climbers or those who know the ropes can have a great time. Come for the day, book a membership, check out their yoga and climb classes, or host a birthday party. No matter what the occasion, Gravity Vault provides a great workout and loads of fun.

Learn Some Hoboken History at Hoboken Historical Museum | 1301 Hudson Street

It’s easy to learn about history right here in our own backyard at the Hoboken Historical Museum. The Upper Gallery exhibits change frequently, so be sure to check the website for what’s coming up next. Admission is just $4 for adults and children are free. The museum is located at 1301 Hudson Street.

See a Play at Mile Square Theatre | 1400 Clinton Street

No Path or ferry ride necessary to enjoy theatrical arts. Pop over to the Mile Square Theatre for a full schedule of productions by incredibly talented performers. Their website will keep you updated with the latest shows and events, so check back frequently. They even offer acting and dance classes for aspiring professionals looking to start out or hone their skills.

Home to nearly a dozen pet-friendly facilities, Hoboken makes it easy to stop by and watch them play on a morning run or afternoon bike ride. If a pet is in-tow, be sure to follow common dog park etiquette like bringing water, keeping an eye out for rough play, and picking up after it.

The Hoboken library is an amazing resource — for borrowing books {it’s FREE if you show your ID + proof of residency and get a library card of course}, but they also have movies, kindle books to borrow, and from time to time, host events free to the public. All of the info about this wonderful spot here. But if you’re wanting to buy a book to keep, the local bookstore Little City Books is the place to do so.

Rent a Bicycle

Hudson Bike Share allows you to rent and park bikes to use for an eco-friendly morning commute or an adventurous and unique date night. Just walk up to one of the official stations {there are more than 30 around town}, download the NextBike app, and follow the rental instructions on the back of the bike. For a short ride, pricing starts at just $2 for a 30-minute trip and then $3 for every additional 30 minutes or, check out the app for pricing on monthly memberships.
