When locals Matt and Stephanie Cohen drove to the doctor for their baby’s 20-week ultrasound, they thought they were going to find out the gender of their baby. But instead, they found out that the right side of their baby’s heart wasn’t developing properly. Immediately, the little girl was diagnosed with congenital heart disease (CHD) and Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome (HRHS).

The Cohens knew heart surgeries and a tough road ahead would follow after their baby’s birth, who they named Madison Rose because Madison means “gift of God” or “strong fighter.” And on June 29, Madison had her first heart surgery and has been recovering in the NICU since then. Since July 15th, she’s been on a waiting list for a donor heart.

So today, the Cohens are asking for a miracle for baby Madison and are asking for your help. They’ve started a GoFundMe page to help with medical expenses. They’ve almost raised over $50K of their $25K goal {talk about overwhelming support}.

Because Stephanie is a Local Barre instructor and has touched the lives of many people, Local Barre is hosting a free class on the pier at Maxwell Place Park on Wednesday, August 3rd at 7 p.m., but the team kindly asks for donations since the class is free. You can register here for the free class on August 3.

Other businesses are also joining in and holding fundraisers. Aaraa Accessories is having a lemonade stand on Friday, August 5th from 12-7 p.m. and all proceeds will go to Madison.

For pizza lovers, you get a way to chip in too. Tony Boloneys is donating $5 for every “Madison” pizza sold and $1 for every “Madison” slice sold to Madison’s cause during the month of August.

Let’s rally together and show the Cohens {and anyone with loved ones needing a donor organ or heart surgery} that with the power of community and love, this little babe will persevere in this battle and receive a new heart — with continued love and support throughout her life.
