Pier 13 is known for its coconut rum drinks with crazy straws, sick views, and food trucks galore. But when it comes to weddings, it’s definitely not the first place you’d think of. But one bride and groom, Elizabeth and Joshua Wishman, knew it was the place they wanted to get married. The Hoboken couple said “I do” in their favorite place complete with #views {and perhaps a coconut rum drink or two to boot}. Here’s a peek into their special day and Elizabeth and Joshua’s story:

How They Met

Josh and Elizabeth met at a Rutgers bus stop during their sophomore year of school. As the academic year came to a close, they had grown inseparable. After graduation, Elizabeth moved to Hoboken and one short year later, Josh followed. They eventually moved into their apartment together and on their 5th year anniversary, Josh popped the question. According to the bride, it began with surprise tickets to Miami and their dog Shadow in a tux — followed by Josh getting down on one knee. “It was perfect and after we grabbed some champagne at Turtle Club.”

The Decision

This young couple felt that Hoboken was a part of them; it was where they moved into their first apartment together, adopted their dog together, and fell even more in love. So when it came to planning their wedding, it was no surprise that they decided to get married in the mile square.

The Ceremony

The bride and groom used a variety of Hoboken vendors for multiple aspects of their wedding, starting with the venue for the ceremony. “We love Pier 13 {with its views and overall general whimsical vibe}. It was absolutely beautiful.”

The Venue

The reception was set at Kolo Klub. At night it was decked out with tons of votive candles, succulents, and handing lights.  “It was was perfectly romantic and slightly rustic,” the bride recalled.

Local Vendors

Elizabeth decided on Salon Gatto for her hair and makeup. “It was a great morning getting ready with my girls, drinking light mimosas, and laughing along with the staff.”

Instead of going with a DJ for their entertainment, the couple took a more untraditional route — dueling pianos.The Flying Ivories – these guys/gals are UNREAL good and made the wedding so much fun.” Their guests sang along and danced all night long as Brad and Nina rocked the piano. {PS: You can see these two live if you go to The Shepherd and The Knucklehead on most Friday nights – check our Events Guides for more info!}

Elizabeth and Josh had already picked The Taco Truck as their caterer when just two weeks before the wedding, they shut down {momentary freak out}. The bride-to-be left work immediately on a mission to find a new caterer hoping for a similar menu since they had already made the party favors (homemade taco seasoning). “I walked right in Charritos and was able to work with the manager to come up with the perfect menu and they did an excellent job organizing it {making guac SO good} and just helping me pull it all together last minute.”

Their dog Shadow trotted down the aisle looking handsome as ever with the very important job of delivering the rings. Whiskers and Leo Pet Care cared for Shadow, picking him up shortly after the ceremony and taking him on a long walk before returning home for dinner and a well-needed nap.

The Night Before

Their rehearsal dinner was held at the couple’s favorite pizzeria in Hoboken –  Grimaldi’s Pizzeria. ” We had a delicious rehearsal dinner here (although it was very difficult to not overstuff our faces).”

The First Dance

The bride and groom took dance lessons at Anytime Dance in Hoboken, making for some unforgettable moments on the dance floor. “Our choreographer was Olivia and she made a beautiful routine for both my husband and I and my father and I.”

“It was the best day and the happily ever after is everything I always knew it would be.”
