WARNING: if you haven’t eaten lunch yet…you may get hungry after reading this post.
Craving some Italian food recently, my dinner date and I headed to Augustino’s in uptown Hoboken. Augustino’s is a little Italian restaurant located at 1104 Washington Street. Not only does this spot have a reputation for great food, but also, it has a fabulous ambiance. It’s cozy, warm, inviting – and the waitresses are friendly and attentive.
Immediately, I ordered the chianti on the menu. Augustino’s is not BYOB, so make sure you check out their drink menu. They have a full bar, FYI. And obviously, I recommend the chianti.
Instead of bread, we received some complimentary bruschetta. Quite yummy, if you like tomatoes and onions. I loved it. I wish we were served more than two, but probably best to save our appetites.
For apps, stuffed artichoke (filled with a mix of bread crumbs and olive oil —mmm) was ordered, as well as a caprese salad (tomato, mozzarella, roasted peppers, and onions + a basalmic house dressing). The stuffed artichoke was a special on the menu, so if you dine there, it may or may not be available. Both were delicious, and pictured below:
Entrees were quite the comfort foods. I ordered the cheese ravioli, and my date ordered the chicken parm. Both were scrumptious.
I’ve also heard great things about the pork chops and the eggplant. My date’s chicken parm dish was TDF…and I ended up making him share with me (in exchange for a few ravioli).
All in all, a wonderful restaurant experience, but beware: you neeeed reservations! My date made reservations a week in advance for a Thursday night — and I’ve heard you can need even more time than that. I know that sometimes you leave a voicemail and are waiting for a call…so definitely do it ahead of time.
One other thing to keep in mind: Augustino’s is NOT BYOB…and you can only pay in cash. The moral of the story is: planning ahead will make your delicious dinner at Augustino’s run more smoothly.
In summary: bring cash, buy booze there, and make rezzies in advance. And bring someone special, because it’s a fantastic, cozy little place to dine. A great date spot or intimate dinner with friends locale. One of Hoboken’s gems, for sure. I absolutely loved it!
