We have a special treat for you today — some fun date night ideas {or girls’ night ideas!}. Here are some of the best classes that are offered in Hoboken for singles or couples. Without further ado, here’s what you need to try ASAP.

I’m always curious to learn how couples first met. While online dating is becoming the popular norm, there are a few old souls who have met their now-fiances the old school way: in person. Shocking, I know, but it does happen. It got me thinking… if the bar scene is so overrated, how else can you meet new people?

For starters, classes are a great way to not only meet other locals, but to actually pick up a skill or two. Now with Spring in the air, put an extra pep to your step as you pick up a few tricks of the trade from one of these interactive activities. With so many variety of adult classes offered in Hoboken, there’s something for everyone:

There aren’t too many things in life that you can mask as “learning,” so stop by Bin14 or Cheese + Wine to train your palate in the intricacies between whites, reds and roses.

2. Cooking classes

Wine is great all on its own, but why not enrich the experience with some food as well? Private places like Hudson Table and even our local grocery store, ShopRite, offer culinary classes to all those who aspire to graduate from boiling noodles.

3. Dance classes

Apparently, it does take two to tango. You can learn this and other valuable tips at Hoboken Tango, Bienvenue Ballroom. For something less “Dancing With the Stars,” and more your pace, also check out Fitness Meets Dance – but know that they do have private 1 on 1 ballroom dancing lessons as well!

4. Language classes

Sure, it’s easy to get by when you master key foreign phrases like, “Which way is the bathroom?” when you’re traveling abroad. But nothing quite gives you an authentic cultural experience until you try to converse like one of the locals. If Rosetta Stone isn’t for you, then check out Learn Language Hoboken to pick up Italian, Spanish, French, Chinese or Arabic.

5. Photography classes

Naturally, if you’ll be traveling, you’ll have your camera handy (how else will you brag about it?). Take your #nofilter game up a notch with your digital camera at Beyond the Photo {Monroe Center} for beginner or intermediate classes.

6. Makeup classes

The only thing better than taking a double-tap-worthy photo is looking smokin’ in it, when you’re on the other side of the lens. Stop by Dina’s Kiss & Makeup or Artist’s Makeup Academy to make sure you’re ready for your up close and personal #selfie.

 7. Sewing classes

Think you can be the next Project Runway winner? Or better yet, just need to learn how to sew that shirt button back on? Then save yourself a trip to the dry cleaners and head over to M. Avery Designs to learn the basics of sewing.

8. Music class

While it’s easy to exercise your vocal chords during a drunken karaoke night, it’s a bit more challenging to train your ear when it comes to the sound of music. That’s why the Tonal Art Music Center offers lessons in guitar, piano, violin and flute.

9. Painting class

If you’re in search for some artwork for that massive blank wall in your living room, then the solution could be in your very own hands. Why roam the aisle of Home Goods or Pier 1 Imports when you can paint your own masterpiece at ArteVino or Urban Arts?

10. Kayaking / SUP class

Even though a few weeks ago summer felt like a distant memory {but thank goodness it’s just about here!}, this class is saved for last because it’s the only one that’s going to get you outdoors and over to Pier 13 Hoboken for something besides its food trucks, drinks and lawn chairs. There’s also a Jersey City paddleboarding experience with sick WTC views — check that out here.

Of course, while there’s no guarantee the love of your life may be the one right next to you sipping wine, painting or even kayaking at the next class, you’ll never truly know until you get out there. So, what are you waiting for?

What is a class that you’ve taken and enjoyed in Hoboken?
