We love when we hear how our Hoboken Girls of the Week are out there continuing to make waves in our world. And our former HG of the Week, Allison Strong, just had a major debut. As of Friday, April 27th, Allison can be found in her first feature film on Netflix aside Adam Sandler and Chris Rock in The Week Of. Allison was personally chosen by Sandler himself to play his daughter (who happens to be marrying Rock’s son, which of course means hilarity ensues). Since so much has happened since our last chat, we decided to update you on all the deets with Allison Strong.

With an impressive musical resume, and having already cut her teeth on Broadway in shows such as Bye, Bye Birdie and Mama Mia!, Allison felt it was time to make the jump to the big screen. She admits she was inspired by the rise in caliber of recent TV shows, namely Downton Abbey, and knew she needed to be part of the great work being done on film. So, when she earned the role of Adam Sandler’s daughter in The Week Of, she was obviously over the moon exited. And now, we here in Hudson County get to cheer on our hometown girl on Netflix! The Week Of tells the story of a well-meaning, blue collar father, Adam Sandler, who is doing everything he can to keep his family (and their house full of guests) happy (and sane) in the week leading up to his daughter’s wedding. In comes the groom’s father, a wealthy doctor from the west coast played by Chris Rock, along with his family… all to the small house in LI. In true Happy-Madison form, there is a host of hilarious costars including Rachel Dratch and Steve Buscemi — what a crew to work with for your first movie!

No spoilers, here. You’ll have to watch The Week Of for yourself, but we do have the inside details on Hudson County native, Allison Strong, and what she most loves about being from and living in Hudson County.

On what inspires her and keeps her motivated

My community has championed me from the time I was a little girl. I’m humbled by their support of The Week Of and of me — and strive to show just how far a Jersey girl, child of Latino immigrants + product of public schools can go.

About her goals and passions

My goal for the year is to take a breath + enjoy the ride. The Week Of was such a tremendous gift and surprise, and the fun isn’t over! So excited to share what else is in store for me this year both professionally and personally.

A typical day in the life

A typical day starts with breakfast, a vocal warm up, and a ride into Manhattan. I audition every week — during my busy season I can have up to five back-to-back in one day. Sometimes I mix it up with lunch with a friend, a trip to the gym or a guitar lesson, but I primarily go into Manhattan to pound pavement. The high of my job is booking work and getting to share it with the world. The challenge of my job is auditioning, but I even enjoy that most days! Just another chance to show people what I can do. On days off, I like to have a lazy morning: a late wake-up, a big breakfast and a walk in the park so I can look at the skyline.

Her career highlights… so far

The Week Of has been a major game-changer for me. First feature, first lead, first billboard, first premiere! The movie came out on Netflix on Friday, 4/27, and I hope people will watch, laugh and tell their friends about it. It was made on Long Island and features a lot of New York + New Jersey actors.

What advice would you give to someone trying to pursue your career path?

My best advice would be to take class with the best teachers you can study with, be open to advice and re-direction from people who know better than you do, and to be kind. People like working with nice people! It’s that simple

Her Hudson County Favorites

Favorite restaurant

I went gluten-free last summer so this is a tough one! I’m a huge fan of the Gluten-Free Pizzas at Bin 14 and of the Build-Your-Own-Burger in a collard green wrap from Bare Burger.

Favorite boutique

Mint Market, hands down! Valerie Duardo has been styling me since her first shop opened a few years ago and every time I wear one of her outfits for a public appearance, people notice! For an interview on Telemundo last week, she styled me in a vintage Gucci top and belt, Just Black Jeans and pointy-toed Patent Leather Sam Edelman heels. The look was sophisticated and beautiful.

Favorite outdoor space

Frank Sinatra Drive. The summer fitness classes on the Pier make me swoon!

Favorite place to work out

I love Cycle Bar, Devotion Yoga, and I can’t wait to try out Soul Cycle and Hudson Yoga Project.

Favorite place to take friends

Bin 14 + Bare Burger. I’ve mentioned Bin 14 + Bare Burger twice in this questionnaire, so you know I really like it. I also love paint nights and have done various in the area—alone and with friends!

Favorite thing about Hudson County

The Hudson Bike Share!

Overall favorite thing to do

I was born + raised in this area. I am a proud Jersey Girl. Exploring the diverse food and shops on Hudson County’s main avenues and streets. Washington Street in Hoboken. Newark Street in Jersey City. Little India in Jersey City. Bergenline Avenue in West New York, North Bergen + Union City. The list goes on.

Something she things needs to come to town

Le Pain Quotidien. I’m always down for a Golden Milk Latte and a tartine.

Congratulations, Allison – we’re so excited for you!
