After the success of our inaugural Prom Dress Drive + Pep Rally last year, Hoboken Girl Helps decided to spread the love and make this year’s Formal Dress Drive + Community Sale open to anyone in Hoboken, Jersey City, and the surrounding area.  We all know that prom and wedding season can cost a pretty penny so our goal was to help girls and guys alike enjoy these special events without breaking the — all while supporting Suits for Success and Dress for Success of Hudson County, a non-profit that helps adult individuals on their quest for full-time employment. Read on to see how the event went, and check out some photos from the day:

Things kicked off with donation collections at local businesses in early March. Boutique Realty, Galatea, Jane Do, Prime Cycle, Terra Stella and West Side Realty Group all opened their doors to collect gently used dresses, suits, shoes and accessories for men and women as well as new makeup and beauty products. For the second year in a row, everyone blew us away with their generosity and we were able to collect over 1,000 gorgeous dresses and suits as well as overflowing bags of knock-out accessories and brand new cosmetics and hair products.

The sale kicked off at the Multi-Service Center on Grand Street on Saturday, March 24th and we had a line of ladies waiting to shop before we even opened. With dresses and suits priced at $5, shoes, purses and accessories at $3 and makeup at $1 it was easy to find an affordable look for any special occasions coming up this spring. Stylist Tiffany Piñero was on hand to help shoppers curate outfits and Noelle of Sweet Treats by Noelle had her famous dough bows and rainbow cookie crumb cakes for sale so shoppers could treat themselves after a deal well found.

Most importantly, all proceeds from the event were donated to Suits for Success and we’re thrilled that we doubled our total from last year — raising over $1,200 {!!!} for the local nonprofit. Additionally, any items that didn’t sell were donated to the Hoboken Shelter and the Salvation Army.

Here’s a little photo-recap from the event:
