    About Kerry

    Hi! I’m Kerry, the owner of Love Locked, a handmade jewelry, apothecary and gift shop located in the heart of Jersey City. Over the past two and a half years I curated over 100 artists, 31 from Jersey City, to create a fair trade jewelry store filled with conflict-free stones and recycled metals. I create custom engagement rings and jewelry while also carrying natural and organic apothecary. We recently added custom coffee tables and furniture. I love every piece in the store and hope you do too!

    On What Inspires Her

    I’m constantly inspired by the caliber of work the artists I carry continually create. My significant other is one of them. He is so creative and talented it’s inspiring just to be around his energy!

    What Motivates Her + What Keeps Her Up at Night

    Designs and ideas keep me up all night! From how to merchandise each special piece, to how to create a special design for a once in a lifetime event- I’m honored I get the opportunity to work with so many couples on such a loving and important gift.

    I keep motivated because I’m genuinely excited to showcase handmade art and help others boost their business through mine.

    Goals + Passions

    This year I’m excited to add many new artists and upgrade our furniture this year! We are custom building out the store piece by piece the goal each month is to take each corner of the store and make it feel more loved. There is always a new blueprint in the works! I’m really passionate about adding new innovative artists and keeping the store fresh and unique but maintaining it fair trade and conflict free ethics.

    But my biggest goal of the year is to see pictures of the happy couples who purchase our rings wearing them. I want to start a story wall! I also am feeling inspired by all the gem shows I’ve been attending and want to add more necklaces and rings to my collection.

    A Typical Day in the Life

    My typical day starts in the jewelry district scouting out stones to showcase to custom customers. I love starting the day wandering about beautiful sparkling pieces. I usually arrive at the store and try to remerch before opening. During the day I have several appointments and walk-in customers who surprise me with unique ideas.

    The Highs + Lows

    I always have high points hearing couples’ love stories. Low points is when I forgot to eat all day because I was so busy and then I realize everything is closed, but the high point when Ani Ramen is still open!

    Highlight of Career {So Far}

    The most rewarding part of my job is listening to what people love and want to spend the rest of the lives with then delivering that. There’s a lot of love that passes through these doors and lot of moment filled with happy tears. I especially love surprise proposals! Waking up every day to experience these moments is the most rewarding part of my job.

    What a Day Off is Like

    Right now I just have one day off so I go look for more stones to play with when the store is closed on Mondays or read about artists I want to carry during the day. At night we usually see a show or plot our next build.

    Advice to Someone Trying to Pursue the Same Career Path

    Do something every single day towards it. And learn everything you can about your desired subject. Keep a positive attitude. Make lots of google docs….
