Our Hoboken Girl of the Week, Savannah Atkinson, was born and raised in Utah; she moved to New York five years ago to pursue her dream of being an author. Talk about chasing your dreams! After working on her first novel, Breathing Water, for six years, with dozens of rewrites and edits, her book is finally done!

Says Savannah:

Vepo Clean

It’s such a surreal feeling to see this finally come to fruition and I am so happy to be published and promoting my imagination-baby. Breathing Water is a Young Adult fantasy about mermaids, adventure, heroic females and strong family values. I wrote it for teenage girls who need to see that they are in control of their destiny and that they can traverse the troubled waters they’re facing.

Of course we had to ask Savannah our HG of the Week Q’s. Here goes:

What is your favorite restaurant in Hoboken?

Without hesitation my favorite restaurant is Elysian Cafe. It’s warm and friendly and I have honestly eaten everything on the menu and love it all! Plus when it’s sunny I am drawn to their outdoor seating for lunch and drinks with friends.

What is your favorite boutique in Hoboken?

Dear Hannah bandeaus

My absolute favorite boutique is Dear Hannah. It is the place to go for adorable summer dresses… and adorable dresses are basically my uniform. {HG note: they have adorable bandeaus as well!}

What do you love most about Hoboken?

I love the walkability in town. I prefer to walk everywhere I go and I love that I can run all of my errands without ever getting into my car. Hoboken has everything, Everything! And all within walking distance.

What is your favorite thing to do in Hoboken?

pier a view hoboken girl

I love walking or running along the Hudson. The pathway is a excellent as it runs the entirety of town. It’s beautiful for a stroll with my husband or my long runs during marathon training.

How long have you lived and/or worked in Hoboken?

After working in Hoboken for a year, I had to move to this fabulous city. My husband and I have now lived here for three years, and we’re looking to buy a home and stick around.

What is your favorite outdoor place to spend time in Hoboken?

Ever After Proposals Pier 13

Without a doubt that would have to be Pier 13. Sitting outside with a drink, great food, and friends is my ideal situation.

What is your favorite place to workout in Hoboken?

I love GoRow Studio. Garret Roberts is a fantastic coach and kicks your butt. I also love to do the free group runs at Hoboken Running Company to hang out with friends and exercise at the same time… and there’s always free beer afterwards!

Where do you go out with friends in Hoboken?

I am not much of a late night person, I prefer to be snuggled in bed by 10pm, so when I “go out” with friends it’s for coffee and the only place for coffee in Hoboken is Bwé Kafe! As a writer I have spend hundreds of hours there working on my book. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is perfectly conducive to being productive. And their coffee is absolutely the best I’ve ever had, in Hoboken or out.

What is something you think needs to come to Hoboken?

The only thing I ever complain about in Hoboken is parking. I think a city planner needs to come to town and figure that out. Maybe more garages or extended parking zones.
