August already?! We can’t believe it either. July has been a busy month for the HG team but we are now back for our weekly events guide just in time for your first weekend of August. It looks like it’s going to be a fun one! Enjoy!

Mile Square Theatre Presents: A Midsummer Night’s Dream: August 1st-9th at 8:00PM

Mile Square Theatre presents a modern interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Set in the 1950’s, in the rough and tumble world of the Hoboken waterfront, Mile Square Theatre revives its critically acclaimed 2007 production of Shakespeare’s comedy of teen love, magical fairies, and clownish mechanicals. Directed by MST Artistic Director, Chris O’Connor, this production combines classic Shakespeare with our local history. This event takes place at Frank Sinatra Park August 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 8th, and 9th at 8:00PM. Admission is free {so awesome} so make sure to check out this amazing show.

Cafe Sole presents The Break A Leg Show this Friday in Jersey City. There will be live art entertainment, live music, and delicious food prepared by Chef Felix Castro, who is opening a bakery dedicated to graffiti and street art. Cafe Sole is located at 496 Communipaw Ave, Jersey City. Enjoy some food, entertainment, and meet new people!

Finding Healthy Beach Snacks: Friday, July 31 from 3-5:00PM

Summer days are often spent at the beach and what is a day on the beach without a bag of chips and some drinks? Unfortunately, those extra calories can add up quickly. You can still have fun at the beach and enjoy delicious snacks without eating junk food. On Friday, visit ShopRite Hoboken’s registered dietitian, Jenna Stock, to check out some healthy snack options from 3-5PM. After leaving, you’ll never want those bag of chips again {hopefully!}. 

Yoga on the Lawn {6th and Willow}: Saturday, August 1st at 8:00AM

Start your Saturday off right with an early morning yoga session outside on the lawn at 6th and Willow. Rummage and Ruffage hosts this event with Hoboken yoga teacher Morgan Gertler Pirog {pictured above- she’s pretty fabulous!}. The class is $10 at the door. Don’t forget to bring your own mat!

Jersey City Day of Relaxation: Saturday, August 1st 11:00AM-7:00PM

We all need a little relaxation time and this weekend Base Gym in Jersey City is helping us out by hosting a spa & wellness day. Treat yourself to a massage, lunch, and unlimited access to the gym. You can purchase a package to stay at the gym all day or leave when you want. Unlimited access to the gym includes a sauna, steam room, exercise classes, food bar, lounge area, all gym equipment, outside patio, and free parking. An “Eating For Beauty” workshop will also be provided. All attendees will receive a certificate to receive a one-on-one 45 minute Wellness Discovery Session with wellness expert Melinda Holmes. Rock ‘N’ Roll Reunion: Saturday, August 1st at 7:00 PM

The Dopeness presents a Rock ‘N’ Roll Reunion featuring: Felix Frump, Sattherthwaite, The Big Dangerous, Perfecto Prep, and Bannister. The event is BYOB and entry is $15 dollars per person. Enjoy some rock ‘n’ roll live music on a night out in Jersey City.   The Dopeness is located at 332 2nd Street, Jersey City.

Perfect Peach Pie Contest: Sunday, August 2nd from 10:00AM-3:00PM

The Riverview Farmer’s Market will participate in the 4th annual Perfect Peach Pie Contest organized by the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council. Participants who wish to partake in the contest must be New Jersey residents, amateur bakers, must use New Jersey Peaches, and can only submit a peach pie or cobbler. Judging will being at noon on Sunday and prizes will be donated by local business and event sponsors  the New Jersey Beer Company and the Corkscrew Bar & Grill . Grand prize winners will receive at $300 check from the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council. For more information about the event and registration click here.  

1st Annual Goat-Stock Festival: Sunday, August 2nd from 3-9:00PM

Head to the Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery as they host the first l Goat-Stock Festival. Enjoy live music, refreshments, feed some goats, and experience a tour while you are there. There will be a special performance by MTV’s newest video artist Lovari, Lovari followed by other bands.  For more information about the event click here. Gates open at 2PM. Harsimus Cemetary is located at 435 Newark Ave, Jersey City.

Crab Boil at Pier 13: Sunday, August 2nd at 1:00PM and 4:00PM

Pier 13 will host a grab boil this Sunday with two seatings. Each table seats 8 people and the $240 cost per table includes 16 canned beers, 32 grabs, corn, sausage, and potatoes. Pier 13 is a local favorite and this event sounds like a fun way to spend your Sunday!

Mike Posner at Maxwell’s: Sunday, August 2nd at 8:00 PM

Maxwell’s Tavern presents Mike Posner featuring Adam Friedman Sunday night. Mike Posner is known for his songs “Cooler Than Me” and “Please Don’t Go.Some very catchy songs. The performance is open to all ages. Tickets are $10 online and $12 at the door.
