Hob’art Co-operative Gallery: Friday, August 14th from 1-5:00PM

The Monroe Center for the Arts will be hosting an art exhibit open to the public from August 14th-September 13th. The exhibit is called “Essence” and was created by artists Miriam Untoria and Katie Duffy McGeehin. The artists will present artwork in a variety of mediums including acrylic, mixed media, plaster, stone, and mortar. The exhibit will be located at the hob’art gallery. On Saturday, August 15h  there will be a reception from 6-8PM to meet the artists. On Sunday, August 16th at 3:30PM the two artists will discuss their artwork and there will be a Q & A. The Monroe Center for the Arts is located at 720 Monroe Street.

We just cannot get enough of the delicious Italian food in the Hoboken area. The 112th La Festa Italiana will be held this weekend at Holy Rosary Church in Jersey City. Holy Rosary Church is the first Italian parish in New Jersey and they are celebrating their 130 years with this amazing Italian festival. Head to Jersey City, enjoy some fried zeppole’s, live entertainment, and more scrumptious Italian food! Holy Rosary Church is located at 344 6th Street, Jersey City.

Live at the Lumberyard: Friday, August 14th from 7-10PM

Riverview Neighborhood Association presents the Lumberyard Concert Series. Bands such as Twiddlin’ Thumbs, Zydeco Revelators and Universal Rebel will give you a night of Zydeco and Reggae music. There will be local food trucks as well to give you a night of live music entertainment, dinner, and a fun night with friends! Live at the Lumberyard is being held at Palisade Lumber & Supply at 418 Palisade Ave, Jersey City.

Yes, the rumors are true! Another restaurant will be added to Washington Street. Owners of the Flatbread Grill are originally from Hoboken and are thrilled to be bringing business back to their hometown. The restaurant serves Mediterranean food with high quality products at an affordable price. They use fresh produce, white meat chicken with no hormones, and most importantly they bake homemade artificial free bread daily. Sounds delicious! Flatbread Grill will be open on Saturday at 11:00 AM on 517 Washington Street. Stop by and welcome them {back} to the neighborhood.

Open Mic Event at the Hoboken Public Library: Saturday, August 15th at 2:00PM

The Hoboken Public Library’s Park Bench Open-Mic offers a space for local talent to be showcased. Anyone can partake in this event. Park Bench Poetry is proud to feature an astounding musical performance by The Westet, a jazz/fusion band with incredible tight, syncopated riffs. Clear the Shelters: Saturday, August 15th from 11:00AM-6:00PM

Support the Liberty Humane Society in their Clear the Shelters promotion with NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47. During the summer season the shelter sees more stray dogs and cats coming into the shelter than any other time of year. The Clear the Shelters event provides no-fee pet adoptions for approved adopters. This event not only provides great adoption opportunities for the homeless animals, but also prepares kennels for incoming animals. Puerto Rican Heritage Festival: Saturday, August 15th from 12-9PM

Explore the Puerto Rican culture this weekend at the Heritage Festival. Enjoy some rice, beans, roasted pork, and frituras and other delicious fried finger foods. The festival is located at 10 Exchange Place, Jersey City. There will be live entertainment followed by a parade on Sunday August 16th at 12:00PM beginning at the Lincoln Monument Entrance and ending at city hall.
