2. The Noir Exhibit at hob’art Gallery in Monroe Center: February 6 – March 1.

Gallery hours: Monday – Friday 7am – 6pm, Saturday: 8am – 5pm, Sunday: Closed

The hob’art gallery in the Monroe Center is mounting an exhibit for February that is called ‘Noir’. It will be a tribute to Black History Month and the artists will be showing a diversity of art based on their own impressions of this subject. With a strong showing of entries and an emotional subject, this promises to be an exciting show that is well worth checking out. The show runs from Friday, February 6 – Sunday, March 1, 2015. 3. The Schooley Mountain Band & The John Baab Trio at Maxwells: Friday, February 6th at 9:00pm

The cost for entrance to these shows is $8. The Schooley Mountain Band will play two sets, at 9 and 11pm with the John Baab band playing a set at 10:00pm.

 

4. The Black Maria Film Festival at the Hoboken Historical Museum: Friday, February 6th at 8:00PM.

The Hoboken Historical Museum will be a host venue for New Jersey’s Annual Black Maria Film and Video Festival, an international competition and award tour featuring cutting-edge works from independent film and video makers. The museum will screen Consider the Ant- Documentary by Emily Fraser; Steel Mill Rolling- Documentary by Ross Nugent (pictured above); and the award winning Yakona- Documentary by Geoff Marslett. Tickets are $10 at the door and include light refreshments.  For more information click here.

 

5. Happy Hour and Concert Event to Support the Edgewater Fire Victims: Saturday, February 7th from  1-6PM.

Live music, happy hour specials, and a way to help members of our community?  What a great way to spend a Saturday. Join Hoboken Happy Hours & Don’t Sit Home at Smokin Barrel Saturday, February 7th from 1-6pm to ROCK TO REPLACE! All donations and proceeds of the food & beverage sales from 1-6pm will go directly to the victims of the Edgewater Fire.

6. Vegetarian Cooking Class at Devotion Yoga: Sunday, February 8th at 2-4PM.

Pandit Dasa is an inspirational speak, meditation specialist, and the author of the book Urban Monk: Exploring Karma, Consciousness and the Divine. He uses his own life experiences and years of study to help others apply Eastern medicine and meditation practices to understand and manage stress and anxiety in their own lives. His work helps people to nourish the mind and maintain better physical and emotional health. This workshop will include meditation, discussion, a cooking demonstration and tasting. The cost is $35.
