Between the annual Hoboken Arts and Music Festival, Derby Day, and one our favorite spots opening, this is a fun-filled weekend of events in Hoboken. Get out and have some fun!

Pier 13 Opening: Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3rd

Ok… sooo this may not be an “event” per se but to us it’s very eventful! After what seem like the looongest winter ever Pier 13 is {finally} opening this weekend to provide us with some much needed outdoor fun. For now, they’ll only be open on weekends so make sure to grab a drink and some food truck eats Saturdays or Sundays for the next few weeks!

Backroom Comedy Club at Willie McBride’s: Friday, May 1st at 8:30PM

If you’re looking for laughs this Friday night Willie McBride’s is the place to go. They have a great lineup of comedians including Johnny Watson, John Clark, Rocco Romeo, and Francesca Day. Tickets are $15 if purchased in advance or $17 at the door. Click here to purchase tickets.

Derby Day Brunch at the Ainsworth: Saturday, May 2nd from 2-7:00PM

Hoboken’s newest waterfront restaurant brings brunch parties to Hoboken this weekend. The Ainsworth kicks off with their Derby Day celebration. Guests will enjoy two brunch cocktails, an entree, and specials on a signature mint julep right before race time. Smokin’ Barrel Kentucky Derby Day: Saturday, May 2nd at 3:00PM

Saturday’s Derby parties are sure to be a ton of fun and Smokin’ Barrel is a great place to celebrate the 2015 Run for the Roses. Will this be the year that the triple crown is rewarded? Come find out at the Wicked Wolf on Saturday, May 2nd. They’ll be keeping the Kentucky Derby Traditions alive with $6 Mint Julep’s and $6 Woodford Reserve Bourbon specials all day. Pilsner Haus and Hofbrau Munchen Present “Maifest”: Saturdays, May 2nd – May 23rd.

Maifest is Germany’s annual festival that welcomes the arrival of Spring and the Pilsner Haus is honoring it with a month-long celebration. The opening ceremony and barrel-tapping takes place this Saturday at 6:00pm. The festival will feature live music each Saturday and an authentic Austro-Hungarian Maifest menu prepared by acclaimed chef Thomas Ferlesch. Visit the Biergarten’s website for more information.

Local Scientist’s Book Reading: Saturday May 2nd from 5-7:00PM

Hoboken scientist Dr. Leong Ying is celebrating his new memoir with a local book reading on May 2. Leong published his book, “From Newton, Einstein to God,” in January, blending autobiographical stories with poetry and his greatest scientific discovery, what he believes to mean the existence of God. He has quite a story to share — leaving his spirituality behind, becoming a staunch atheist, living in the attic of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” writer C.S. Lewis and then finding his calling as a nuclear physicist. The event will take place from 5-7:00PM at Symposia Bookstore located at 510 Washington Street.

Riverview Farmers Market in The Heights: Sunday, May 3rd from 10:00AM-3:00PM

Riverview Farms Market kicks off the season this Sunday and will be open every Sunday through November. This market boasts weekly events, sweeping city views, and some of the best local vendors around. The Riverview Farmers Market is organized by Farms in the Heights, a grassroots, not-for-profit organization established to foster a greener community and promote a more sustainable Jersey City. All board members are volunteers and are the driving force behind the Riverview Farmers Market and other Farms in the Heights programming. This weekend includes children’s activities, an 11:00AM yoga class, and a “Music in the Park” event at 12:30pm. Click here for more information on shopping local at Riverview. 

Hoboken Arts & Music Festival: Sunday, May 3rd from 11:00AM to 6:00PM

The annaul Spring Arts and Music Festival is a must-go Hoboken event! The event will feature over 300 artists, crafters, photographers, sculptors, food vendors, local restaurants and businesses, non-profits, car dealers, children’s activities, and more.  There will be a special kids station on 3rd Street and three different music stages with artists and bands scheduled throughout the day. Work It Out’s Arts, Music, & Blended Ride: Sunday, May 3rd at 12:45pm

Before heading to the Arts and Music Festival get an extra sweat in. Work It Out is adding a special 90-minute Next Stop: Skinny class at 12:45pm this Sunday.
