Many guys out there might experience the struggle of finding a good barbershop in Hoboken that caters to their men’s haircut and shave needs {because guys have #hairgoals, too}. To help you out, HG contributor John will be barbershop-hopping around the Mile Square and sharing his experiences with us. Yes, that means he’ll literally be getting a haircut in Hoboken at a different spot EACH time he needs a haircut, all in the name of journalism {you’re welcome}.

Hobbs Inc

Ambiance

V’s is definitely going after the guy’s guy, featuring old school, plush leather barber chairs and iconic sports moments framed throughout. TVs strategically placed for your viewing pleasure, this shop is an ideal spot for a haircut if your poor planning led to a trim during the game. With over 40 locations nationwide, they’ve refined their interior to resonate with the nostalgia of an upscale, classic American barbershop. The shop was very clean, being actively swept up throughout services. V’s other nearby location can be found at 389 Washington Street in Jersey City.

Timeliness & Booking

Fortunately, V’s was able to accommodate a same-day appointment for a weekday afternoon {a challenge in Hoboken}. I managed to get there a few minutes early and was brought to a chair right away. With plenty of seating and a well-stocked magazine rack, you’ll manage to survive a wait, if there is one.

The Cut

Fatima was my lucky draw — I asked for my usual “generic looking guy on the CW Network,” and Fatima delivered. I’m not too particular, but I go with a tapered two on the sides, a little longer on the top with a soft part and some thinning shears to keep me from looking like a Q-tip a week out. Fatima checked up throughout the cut to make sure I was content. After several years of living in Hoboken, this was honestly one of the better cuts I’ve received.

Added Services

Although I didn’t take advantage, V’s offers shoe shining, facials, head + neck massages, straight razor hot shaves, beard/mustache trims, quick cleanups, and groom packages.

Price

V’s is affordable for the area {$28 for a haircut on their menu} and if you’re a regular, they’ll clean up your neck on the house. They also offer a father + son discount which is a cool opportunity to bond with the little ones. V’s accepts a variety of credit cards, even allowing the option to add a tip on the card which is a great convenience if you’re not one to carry cash {and very rare in town}.

Hours

The hours for V’s are as follows:

Wed  10AM – 8PM
Thu   10AM – 8PM
Fri     10AM8PM

Sun  10AM4PM

The Verdict

Seeing as how I’ll be getting my haircut at a different shop each month, I won’t be back for a while, but I’d definitely consider it. A lot of people are turned off by chains which is understandable, but with franchises come standards, and V’s offers a reliable and affordable haircut {based on my personal experience}.
