We’re so excited for our friends at Local Barre, who made a big announcement this week regarding plans to franchise their successful fitness studios. The studios will be rebranding under the name “The LB” and has plans to open locations across the country. On their Instagram they promised that members will “continue to get the barre classes and local community that {they} know and love, but now we will have new branding, new exciting events, and new locations ope all over the country.” Congrats to everyone on the LB team!

We’ve definitely been going through some post-Olympic withdrawl this week, but reading about Hoboken’s own Olympian, Dagmara Wozniak, returning back to the states has helped a bit. In an article on Hoboken PatchWozniak proudly posed with Mayor Zimmer and her Bronze medal from her win as part of the US women’s fencing team. Local residents gathered at a celebration at the W Hotel to honor the Olympian. Some major Hobokengirl-power right there! 🙂

Urban Coalhouse Pizza & Bar to Open

urban-coalhouse

What was originally expected to be called Tommy’s Coal Fired Pizza & Bar has changed the name and will officially open as Urban Coalhouse next week. The new spot is owned by the same team behind Tommy’s, which has locations in Paramus, Red Bank, and Brick, NJ. We took a stroll by 14th Street location this week and are pleased to say it looks like it will be a great addition to the blooming uptown culinary movement.

Grimaldi’s to Close Clinton Street Location

Our hearts are breaking over this news. This past week one of Hoboken’s favorite pizza eateries, Grimaldi’s announced it’s closing it’s doors at their 133 Clinton Street Location. According to a recent article on hMAG, the closure is happening as a result of a rent increase that the restaurant will incur once their lease expires. Grimaldi’s first opened at this location in 1994, originally under the name Patsy’s in partnership with Pat and Carol Grimaldi. Thankfully, the Washington Street location will still be opened. Make sure to stop by and visit before they close.

Biggie’s Clambar Closing Madison Street Location

Two closure announcements in one week? Almost too much for us to handle. Rumors have swirled for some time that Biggie’s Clam Bar would be closing their Madison Street location and sadly those rumors were confirmed this week. As of October 3rd, Biggie’s will consolidate operations to the Newark Street location. It seems that a number of factors have contributed to this decision, including structural concerns at the 120-year-old Madison Street building. No doubt the location, open since 1946, will be missed.

This Saturday, Gayborhood Jersey City & Humanity Pride Productions hosted the 16th Annual Jersey City LGBT Pride Festival from 12-8:00PM. The festival took place on Newark Avenue between Grove Street and Jersey Avenue. The Jersey City Pride Festival “emphasizes the importance of diversity in our community, making it stronger and more accepting of all individuals and their contributions to our society.” Last year, the even drew an estimated 10,000 people who came out in support of our local LGBT community. The event featured a variety of local artists and entertainers in the area. Loves!
