The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the entire state from Sunday through Tuesday due to high winds {up to 60 mph} heavy rain, and potential coastal flooding. Thankfully, temperatures for our area are not expected to get below freezing so it doesn’t look like ice will be a problem {though secretly we wish it was a blizzard because… #Snowboken}.

Public Invited to Hoboken State of the City Address

State of the City

On Monday, January 30th at 7:00PM Mayor Zimmer will give her seventh State of the City address at the DeBaun Auditorium in Edwin A. Stevens Hall on the Stevens campus. The event is open to the public and there are no tickets needed to attend. The Garden Street School of Performing Arts  will be performing at the event. For directions to the event click here.

American Apparel to Close by April

A recent article from Harper’s Bazaar announced that clothing company American Apparel will close all of its 110 US stores by the end of April, including the Hoboken location.  Earlier this year Gilden Activewear, a Canadian brand, acquired American Apparel in an auction. There takeover plan includes removing production from the United States. Stock up on your favorite tights and bodysuits now, ladies and gents!

3 Jersey City High Schools Graduate 100%

The Department of Education recently released data on 2016 graduation rates and the list showed three Jersey City High Schools with 100% graduation. According to an article on NJ.com, McNair Academic, Infinity Institute and Liberty High School lead Hudson County schools with perfect graduation rates with County Prep {also in JC} coming in with a 99% rate. Hoboken High School had an 86% graduation rate, which is below the 90.1% state average but is an improvement from last year.

Just Salad Opens First NJ Location in Newport

Just Salada New York City based fast casual salad brand opened their first New Jersey location in at 525 Washington Blvd in the Newport Tower in Jersey City. The location will feature menu items from Just Salad’s new winter menu which includes innovative new dishes beyond “just salad” such as a market plate, chicken barbacoa wrap, and more. The New York City based fast casual salad brand has more than 30 locations in New York, Chicago, Kansas, Hong Kong, and Dubai.

Jersey City Ranked “Queerest City in America” by LGBT Magazine

LGBT Magazine The Advocate recently released their list of “queerest places in the nation” and Jersey City is at the top of the list. According to an article on NJ.com, Mayor Fulop’s 2015 announcements that Jersey City would offer healthy care benefits for transgender city workers and a Jersey City theater playing “Moonlight”, a new film up about being black and gay, attributed to the ranking.

This year Washington Street is getting a makeover. The City of Hoboken has created a website for residents to keep track of information regarding the redesign project. WashingtonStreetProject.com will provide bi-weekly progress reports on the construction, milling and paving, and water service interruptions. Be sure to check it out to plan for any interruptions in your shopping and travel plans around town.

New Exhibit at the Hoboken Historical Museum

The Hoboken Historical Museum will host an opening party tonight for their newest exhibit: Hoboken People & Places, 1976-1994: Photographs by Michael Flanagan. According to hMAG, the exhibit will feature black and white photos from the 1970s and 1980s that depict the changes that Hoboken underwent during that time.  On the same day, another exhibit, On the Waterfront, an Insider’s View: Photographs by Donald “Red” Barrett, will open with photographs of Hoboken’s working waterfront. Be sure to stop by the museum to see the exhibits.
