    Helloooooo wedding season! Spring in Hoboken is always exciting because the flowers are blooming, the days are longer, and the sun starts setting when we’re actually home from work to catch it illuminating that dream of a skyline. This is a magical time in the Mile Square because it’s also the perfect time for a wedding. And in celebration of that, we’re sharing with you some of our favorite Hoboken proposal stories — sent in to us by our readers.

    This edition features three couples whose love may have no bounds, though their love story is tied to one very special — and very specific — place in town. Congratulations to Rebecca + Jonathan, Diane + Paul, and Charlie + Adam!

    Diane + Paul’s Story

    “Paul and I had our first date at City Bistro on May 26, 2013. Every year on our anniversary we’d go there to celebrate. Three years later, on May 26, 2016, we went there for our traditional anniversary dinner/drinks, and after we ate, he got up in front of the whole packed rooftop, along with a professional photographer, and proposed.

    Right when I said yes, my whole family and friends came up the stairs to surprise me. The entire restaurant was cheering and clapping and taking photos. It was really great! The whole wait staff knew and everyone was waiting for it. We are getting married in one month, exactly a year later! {As you can see in the photos, he also had a local florist decorate our whole table before we got there.}” ~ Diane

    Rebecca + Jonathan

    “Jonathan proposed to me in the first spot he took me to when we first started dating. We grew up together and then lost contact, but we reconnected while he was living alone in Hoboken. He took me up to the area on the Stevens campus that overlooks the city because he knew of my love of the city. This quickly became “our spot” that we visited every time I came here.

    After moving to an apartment in Hoboken together 2 years ago, he planned the perfect proposal — we walked our puppy to that exact spot and he got down on one knee! After, while I was distracted calling my family to tell them, I looked down the block to the Elysian, and both of our parents were there to celebrate. It was a perfect Hoboken proposal, and we are excited for our wedding this August!” ~Rebecca

    Charlie + Adam

    Since I’m from the U.K, my boyfriend and I were used to living apart from each other for long periods of time. We decided to file for my permanent visa in February 2016, and once all the paperwork was submitted we just had to wait… which was very frustrating! He flew me over to see him in April 2016. He picked me up from the airport and when we got to Hoboken, we went for a walk along the water. He surprised me with the approved paperwork from our visa application, and asked me to marry him! Our best friends were there to capture the moment.

    A few months later, we decided to tie the knot in the same spot!

    We’re not crying — you’re crying! {Ok, we’re crying.}

    Michele mostly writes about her two favorite things - people and food. Though she’s been a Jersey girl since her mother danced on a chair at a Bruce Springsteen concert while 8-months pregnant, Michele’s life is anything but basic. During the day, she's a payroll specialist for small + local businesses, but on the nights and weekends, she's trying new places to write about and stopping for snacks along the way {so it's a good thing she's a marathoner and soccer player}. Aside from adding to her already extensive collection of throw pillows, Michele enjoys a good beer, nachos, and chillin’ with her kitties, Bo and Samson.
