Hoboken Terminal Reopens

On Monday, commuters passing through Hoboken Terminal were greeted with a new traffic pattern after the NJ Transit concourse officially reopened. The concourse has been closed since the tragic train crash in September that claimed the life of one Hoboken resident an injured over 100 other people. As reported by Hoboken Patch, the announcement came weeks ahead of the expected June opening date. Hoboken Terminal has seen an increased number of commuters in recent weeks following delays and derailments on NJ Transit that caused NYC travelers to be routed through Hoboken.

City Proposes Southwest Redevelopment Plan

The City of Hoboken has introduced the Southwest Hoboken Redevelopment Plan which details ideas for a mixed use urban neighborhood for residential, work, and entertainment areas. A press release from The City states, “The plan builds on existing uses such as industrial arts, art galleries, and co-working space, creates an environment with more open space and retail amenities, establishes a walkable neighborhood that is safer for all modes of transportation, and preserves and creates jobs.” A City Council meeting will be held at 7:30PM on Wednesday, May 24th where the Council will vote on introducing the plan. The plan also includes expansion of the Southwest Park that is currently under construction. To view more details on the plan, click here.

Hoboken Terminal Neighborhood to Become “Railhead District”

via

The neighborhood surrounding Hoboken Terminal has been termed the “Railhead District” by the Hoboken City Council in a 7-2 vote. According to Jersey Digs, the name is symbolic for the moment, but plans are being proposed to make formal changes to further establish the neighborhood. Ideas for that include a visitor’s center and possible wall art on the outside of buildings. The name is not set in stone and could potentially change, though many businesses in the area have started using the name when referencing the area.

Luke’s Lobster Finds New Home

After closing their Hoboken brick-and-mortar location weeks ago, Luke’s Lobster has found a new home at the Jersey Shore. The lobster food chain will open in Long Branch on May 27th. NJ.com tells us the closing of the Hoboken store was a strategic move as they will now bring the food to a new audience while continuing to cater to Hoboken through their Pier 13 food truck {thank God!}. An official menu for the Long Branch location has not yet been released.
