Ah, Hoboken’s waterfront — with breathtaking views of the city is the perfect spot for many things: jogging, bike riding, eating, and of course, popping the question. While we’ve seen many proposal stories that take place on the waterfront, they just seem to get cuter each time — and we couldn’t pass up this one. Keep reading for Vinny + Marissa’s adorable Hoboken proposal story {as told by Marissa herself} with pictures from Greg Koch {and just WAIT ’til you see how excited this groom-to-be was… #goals}.

“Vinny and I met at Providence College. We started out as the best of friends, both of us dating other people when we fell for each other. Vinny is from Bergen County and I am from Rhode Island. After teaching a few years in RI and doing the long distance thing, I relocated to Hoboken and started teaching in NYC. We moved in together a few years ago to the Shipyard in uptown Hoboken.”

The proposal took place on April Fool’s Day, in what was supposed to be a “casual walk on the waterfront” for the couple. “Vinny surprised me by ‘running into’ our friend, photographer and fellow Hoboken-resident, Greg. Vinny then got down on a knee and popped the question. Before I could even answer a runner shouted ‘congratulations!'”

As evidenced by the photos, Greg truly captured the moment perfectly. “I had to ask a few times to make sure it wasn’t an April Fool’s prank!” Marissa joked. But sure enough, it was real. The couple headed back to their apartment after all the excitement to FaceTime and call family.

When they got back to the apartment, Vinny had a video prepared that their family and friends had recorded, wishing congratulations. “We then headed to the city and I was surprised by all my friends and family, from near and far to celebrate our happy news,” the bride-to-be shared. The couple is tying the knot in Rhode Island on May 19th.

Lucky for them, the photos will last a lifetime, and what a beautiful backdrop to have captured it. “The Mile Square has become our home and we absolutely love living in this amazing city.” Congrats, lovebirds!
